I have two maltese dogs, and the mother (we've had her since she was a pup), has always licked her paws and strategically wiped the tear stains off her eyes. She's never had tear stains growing up. Then we had her get pregnant and we kept one of the puppies and she instinctively never cleaned her eyes, but being the copy-cat that she is, she learned from her mother and started to do the same thing...
Is this common or rare?

I felt like I wanted the new puppy to eventually have puppies (she's like 5 now), but my parents disagreed because they didn't want her "personality to change" and we've now had her spayed. :(

They own the hardest dog in town (of course the Tosa is the number one fighting dog) however, what I don't understand is why you would want to own such an aggressive dog. I can see clearly why a person would own a guard dog. They offer protection to our children, family and home. Pit bulls are not even considered good guard dogs. I have not seen a list compiled yet where a pit bull ranks in the top ten guard dogs. They are good fighting dogs but not as effective for protection work. (I am not saying I would want to break into a home with a pit bull in it) But I'm sure you understand what I am saying. If you want a dog that can protect why not get another breed Why choose the pit bull. The only reason I can see is that people want to have the Pride/Status of having a vicious fighting dog in there home. My question:
Is it better to have a breed of dog that is on the top ten list of guard dogs or to have a dog that is only good for taking out other dogs?

I have a little toy poodle that likes to climb under our privacy fence. And we live on a really busy street almost like a highway, and im always afraid he is going to get hit by a car. Every time we fix the spot he gets out of he always finds another. My parents are getting so sick and tired of trying to find him. What can I do to stop him?

I have taken my 9 year old German Shepard mix in to the vet three times in the last month and she has not gotten better. She has had three seizure/stroke type spells that I know of where she has trouble standing and walks on her toes with her back arched up. These episodes last less than a minute and she seems frightened and disoriented. She has accidents, mostly urinary, almost everyday, including in her own bed. She refuses to "shake" anymore and instead turns around and walks away from us. She also walks slowly like shes in pain. These symptoms came on suddenly. The vet put her on steroids briefly which seemed to perk her up a bit but she still had accidents. Because of the presence of white blood cells in her urine she was put on antibiotics. She is at the end of the treatment and it hasn't seemed to do any good. She had a blood test and everything came out "normal". HELP! I have an 11 month old son and don't want to jeopardize his health or safety.

Since I first came across the breed i've been in love with them. My family got our first dog when I was 8 and we've had one ever since. I have lots of experience with dogs. I just graduated from college and am going to be living in an apartment by myself. I'm looking into getting a great dane mostly to keep me company and also to be protective if necessary. I know the breed isn't usually aggressive which is good since the dog will be around many different and new people. I haven't had extensive interaction with the breed but have done some research online. I'm just looking for more information from owners as to what to expect. I know they make ok apartment dogs since they have slower metabolisms and sleep alot. Are they vocal dogs in general (even though I know there are exceptions to every generalization)? I'm also thinking of feeding a raw dog food diet in the morning and dry kibble at night. Any guidance on this? Thanks!

My 4 y/o Boston is going to be undergoing surgery to remove a broken tooth soon, and I am scared to death. She has been under anesthesia twice before and has been fine, but now we are at a new clinic, which is adding to my nervousness. I have a list of questions that I am going to ask the vet (about the type of anesthesia/monitoring) but I know no matter what I will still feel nervous. She is otherwise a very healthy dog and if something happens to her I don't know if I'll be able to forgive myself. I guess I just need reassurance that I am doing the right thing. The pulp of the tooth is exposed so it really does need a root canal or extraction to prevent infection and pain.

Thanks.
