OK I have a 12 year old Schnauzer. I took him in for a check up on Friday. His back legs were bothering him. Had a prostate test, Pancreas test, liver and kidney test and red and white blood cell test. Everything is perfect. He has arthritis and he is 10 to 15 lbs. overweight. He has always gone in for check up and shots. This is the first mention of his "weight problem". He weighs 30.6lbs. He has to lose at least 9lbs. the vet said. He said his weight is making the arthritis worse. Which makes sense. Here is my question. I was told that dogs can have fresh vegetables for a snack, except lettuce and he can have fruits except peaches and grapes. Is this info correct?? Is there any other nutritious snacks you know of?

With all the new hype surrounding Michael Vick and now the proposed Pit Bull ban in Mass. and other states, I just thought folks would find this little quiz interesting. If bans are passed, 95% of the breeds in this quiz will be in trouble, because people will get hysterical whenever they even suspect a "Pit" in their midst. I volunteer in a shelter and it took me 4 attempts to find the Pit Bull. Take the quiz, read the rest of this EXCELLENT site (WARNING: GRAPHIC IMAGES OF FIGHTING DOGS) and let me know how many of you (be honest) found the Pit Bull on the first try. Also, if you have breed ban concerns, I would love to hear them. Thank you!

Seems like since so many people hate it, as some have claimed, it would be banned. Why would so many places refuse to ban the Pit Bull when, as some have claimed, it is absolutely hated (for no reason, of course) by so many people?

And its a nuisance,i just want to know who should i contact in this case,to file a complaint, the cops, animal control, etc????

Ps. I feel bad for the dog because i imagine that he must not be properly taken care of by my neighbors and that that is posssibly why he barks so much.

Seems to me if there was a rash of viscious attacks by a breed like, a beagle or golden retriever the public would want to know about it. Why would the media keep such infomation from us?

My roommate's boxer/pit mix attacked my 4 month old puppy yesterday. He's not physically hurt, as we got to them quickly, but he's been very quiet and seeking affection and reassurance ever since. I'm worried that this may affect his relationship with dogs in the future, I don't want him to become scared or aggressive toward dogs because of this. He's young, so I assume I can work with him to prevent this. Any ideas?

I just got a 3 week old blue nose, she is so adorable! I've heard that they are the meanist breed of pitbulls, is that true? I also have a wite american pit, and she is agressive, but pitbulls make realy good pets. Lots of people have misconceptins on this dog, they are very loyal to their owners if you treat them right, they will defend you and gaurd your house.

following up on the previous question about convincing my parents to get me a dog. I can understand that since no one is at home from 8 (my parents leave for work then) to generally 2 to 3 in the afternoon (when I get back from school), it might not be a good idea to keep a dog. I did read that some dogs are find left alone for this period of time so I thought it would be ok. But the thing is I need to know then does that mean I will never be suitable to keep a dog, since my parents expect me to work overseas, so there would probably be no one in the house to look after the dog even after I grow up.
