Seems like since so many people hate it, as some have claimed, it would be banned. Why would so many places refuse to ban the Pit Bull when, as some have claimed, it is absolutely hated (for no reason, of course) by so many people?

They should be banned everywhere.

There's a major issue here that people have the right to do what they choose, provided they accept responsibility for all the consequences. I'm guessing that many places realize that banning pit bulls wouldn't be enough for some, so they'd have to ban Rottweilers, then German Shepherds, then Dobermans, Akitas, Chow Chows, Shar Peis... every dog that's ever attacked anyone in the area will be banned (theoretically) as the area descends on the slippery slope. After all, what separates pit bulls as dangerous animals from Labs? I'm sure city governments, city councils, and other governing bodies have much better things to do with their time and money.

there are still pit lovers out there who are fighting the ban.

Even if you dont care much for the breed.. the argument is, if you let the goverment tell you that you cannot have a certain breed, whats to stop them from banning other breeds? Whats to stop them from banning dogs alltogether?

Even if you did ban pits, people will still own them, illegally. The people who give pits a bad name are the ones who over breed them, and breed/train bad examples. The responsible people take care of their dogs and train them will not be allowed to have a pit. The idiots who ruined the pit will also just choose another breed to ruin.

When a breed is banned, there is a lot of them dumped in shelters all of a sudden.. its a major cost to the shelters to house, feed, and finally, euthanize these animals.

People that allow their state to pass laws banning one breed of dog are ignorant. It is not the breed of dog, it is the owners.

I have Boston terriers and have had parents pull their kids away from my babies since they ‘look like’ a pit bull. (Ya, I don’t get it either) My babies sleep in bed with me, and are better behaved and gentler than most children. I think some children should be on leashes, and not allowed in stores just like my fur children.

If my state were to try to ban one breed of dog, no matter the breed, I’d campaign very hard against that law. Should someone come up with a better law against the people that mistreat animals, and add a death penalty for people that train and run dog fights I’d go door to door to get signatures for that law.

As a pit bull owner, I can say that pit bulls can be adorable loving pets. We bought two, and because of the breeder's unfortunate cicumstances at the time, we aquired them at 4 weeks old. We have had them for 4 years, and not once have they given us a problem. They are good with our cats, and small children. They alert us when someone strange enters our premises, but have never been so aggressive that they bite someone. Even our postman likes our pits and they wait with paws on fence for him to come.(he gives them a doggie biscuit)

We love our devoted and loyal pits, and would be terribly upset if pits were banned. I agree with others who say it is the people who own them that teach them to be aggressive. And, quite honestly, that can be with any breed of dog.

My brother had to put his military police trained German Shepherd to sleep because he was not a suitable pet after being trained to attack on command.

People fear them because of what their owners have taught them. Why would any one hate a breed of dog? We should not blame the breed. Put responsibility where it lies... with the owner.

They are just dogs. It's the owners who make them mean not the dog itself. In banning the pit bull is there really going to be any justice? I mean it's like baning drugs and making them illigal....either way people smuggle them in and use them don't they. Pits are used for fighting and attacking so that is why people are affraid but why shouldn't you be affraid of any other type of dog? I've never seen a pit or touched one but I don't think I'd really be to scared of one.

The biggest reason in my state is that people get out and vote. Any animal lover should vote against wrongful instated animal laws purposed.

If something like this happens in anyone's state, and they are apposed to it, they need to be burning up the phone lines and/or writing their government to let them know how they feel. Hopefully, they will get the message.

Many people are scared of pitbulls because of unfair media coverage. TV news and other media forms usually describe dog attacks as pitbull attacks even if they are not pitbulls. But it is completly unconsitutional to ban pitbulls....BAN THE IRRESPONSIBLE OWNERS!!!!
