With all the new hype surrounding Michael Vick and now the proposed Pit Bull ban in Mass. and other states, I just thought folks would find this little quiz interesting. If bans are passed, 95% of the breeds in this quiz will be in trouble, because people will get hysterical whenever they even suspect a "Pit" in their midst. I volunteer in a shelter and it took me 4 attempts to find the Pit Bull. Take the quiz, read the rest of this EXCELLENT site (WARNING: GRAPHIC IMAGES OF FIGHTING DOGS) and let me know how many of you (be honest) found the Pit Bull on the first try. Also, if you have breed ban concerns, I would love to hear them. Thank you!

Hello,
I live in Ontario, where there is a breed ban on pitbulls. I am an American, however, and I hope that the states learn from what is going on in Ontario. I hope my home state of Mass. does not take this step.
In ONtario, I still see stories on the news and in papers about "pitbull attacks" all the time. Irresponsible people are still breeding these dogs and fighting these dogs, while responsible people muzzle their dogs in public as they're supposed to. These muzzled dogs are usually the nice, well-trained ones, and the muzzles only serve to make people more frightened of the breed. THousands and thousands of dollars have been spent since the start of the ban in 2005 on extra enforcement of the pit bull laws. But nothing has changed, except more people being taught to hate pit bulls. They are still bred here, as they're not supposed to be. I still see puppies around. Also, the ON breed ban covers all "pitbull-type" dogs, so even if it looks like a pit in someone's opinion, it can be euthanized or forced out of province if it is not grandfathered.
It makes me so frustrated! It's very clear that BSL does nothing positive!
It took me four tries to find the pit in the quiz, and I have been around them for years. I can't imagine how many lotherwise well-behaved dogs that just look like pits have been euthanized in shelters just for looking like a pit. I know of one poor sweet boxer mix that had this fate in ON, and I know there are many many more.

My fiance and I found the "pit" in these pictures. Some of the others are "cousins" of the "pit". It took me and my fiance a while to find the pit, and we've raised "pits". We would own them again if we could.

It scares me to think that there would be a lot more animals banned, because of people's tendency to overreact. All these dogs are beautiful dogs, and look close enough to a pit bull to cause a lot of people concern. Pitbulls are not the terrible monsters that people seem to think they are, its just in the manner in which they are raised.

I don't care what type of dog it is, if you abuse a dog, its going to retaliate. Most people don't realize either that its not the pitbulls that are most likely to attack people, its toy poodles that are the highest risk for attacking.

The only reason why pitbulls have the bad rap, is because people get stuck on the fact that they were specifically bred to fight in the pits.

But if you raise a dog, and I mean any dog, with a loving hand, and not abuse, they will be good pets.

5 tries for me. I was shocked to see a Vizlsa on there! My mix is mostly Vizsla with some "Pit" and possibly Ridgeback in him.
Most people will call a dog a Pit if it only remotely looks like a pit bull and that is what I call ignorance. Some people are afraid of my dog because they think he is a Pit. I think they are crazy and they can just keep walking the other direction as far as I am concerned. I hate the ban and I hate the irresponsible owners out there that abuse this dog and further the misconception of the breed.

I once went to a lake to fish, and since I wasn't catching anything, I decided to walk around the local park. A couple was there with a large pit bull and a chihuahua puppy, both running off-leash. I LOVE dogs and stopped to chat with the couple. I asked if I could pet their dogs, and they said that was fine. I attempted to approach the chihuahua, which was a tiny female who couldn't have been more than six months old. The little ***** tried to rip my finger off and for a good five minutes afterward, stalked around me with her hackles up, just out of reach, barking and growling. The pit bull, on the other hand, immediately ran up to me with a log in his mouth, so excited to meet a new person that his entire body was wagging. He dropped the stick in my lap and slobbered and wagged all over me. I am tiny. 5'0", 100 lbs. I played with that goofy dog for an hour. I wrestled with him, and we played fetch, without so much as a scratch. I can't even wrestle with my Lab without getting hurt somehow or another (he has a tendency to bring his head up under my chin, which sharply snaps my mouth shut, usually on my tongue). And that's not the first time, nor the last that I have had a blast making friends with a random pit bull terrier, Dobermann, Rottweiler, etc. They are wonderful dogs and the only reason they have a bad reputation is because they were bred specifically for dog fighting well over 100 years ago. What the media neglects to mention is that all those attacks by pit bulls are generally of dogs having been kept on a chain all their lives without much human contact. I think if I'd been secluded and locked away my entire life, I'd be a little pissy too. And on top of that, dogs described as "pit bulls" in the newspapers sometimes aren't even pit bulls at all! And to make things EVEN worse, the news rarely if ever mentions the attacks by "loveable" breeds: golden retrievers, dalmatians and even dachshunds! Pitt bulls rock!

Wow I picked the Bull Terrier first. It took me a long time to find the American Pit Bull Terrier. The thing is I have a freind with a pit bull and I couldn't even find it myself. I had no idea there were so many breeds that looked so much like pit bulls.
I don't think any of those were fighting dogs though. It says they all come from breeder websites so I would hope they don't advertise for fighting.

seen this test before but the first time it took me 2...the blue blood threw me.

banning the pit is not the way to handle the problems..it will just make them cooler to own! and the other breeds are in trouble as people who don't work with dogs see somethng that looks 'bully' thinks oh thats a pit! i even heard someone say to an owner of a BOXER...that it was a pit! idoits make idoit laws....and never look to the whole story of the breed or the problem. YES there is a problem...but its not the dogs...its the people who own the dogs. instead of banning i think that if u want to own a dog...ANY dog that u should have to take it through training....but i don't see that happening in my life time...or even my young daughters'.
breeding laws need to take place not only for pit but for all and i think if u are a good breeder u should be on that band wagon. and contracts for all dogs that are adopted and bought be made. more and more unwanted dogs die yearly....its not just a breed problem.....its an every dog problem.

I got it right on the 1st time! #16!
I have like 5 pits, and it was not that hard.
most of the time, the pitbull things are a lie, there are way more dog attacks that just pit bull!

A dang chiahuia or how ever u spell chiwawa
can bite a finger off!
those people are just horrible, cuz they think that ALL pitbulls are mainiacs, and savage biters! I have 5 and 3 out of those 5 are the sweetest pits u will probablly ever see!

How refreshing to read an open-minded opinion on Pit Bulls. And one so interactive and fun!

I failed to pick the Pit out, but I also learned that there is no such breed as a Pit, it refers to a family of terriers.

I'm opposed to any ban anywhere because I don't think the government should have a say in which dogs we may or may not own, and it won't solve the "problem". The dogs aren't the problem, it's bad owners and a***holes like Michael Vick.

That's awesome- I'm a dog groomer and it took me 5 tries! You make an excellent point however, I've always told people not to listen to the 'pit bull attacks' on the new because 9 times out of 10, it's not even a real pit bull doing the attacking! It's sad that we spend all this time fighting racism in humans, and yet, we stereotype dogs in the same way.

I worked in animal control for 9+ years. This was good. I looked at all of the pictures and identified all the breeds but five. Of these five I knew three were not pits but I didn't know just what the breed was. Of the last two you got me. I am most customed to Pits with the tail docked and the ears cropped. Good one.
I had a lady lodge a stupid complaint against a "Pit Bull" that barked at her and scared her. It was a collie.
