I too, am outraged and disgusted by the crimes it is alleged have been committed by Michael Vick. I was totally sickened by the description of these dog fights. For those of you who didn't hear what dog fights are all about -- the dogs who fight are trained to be aggressive by using small game animals like rabbits. The dogs are given these little creatures to rip apart so that they get a taste for blood! Once they become aggressive enough, they are put into the ring with another trained, killer dog. My understanding is that dogs who are not 'winners', end up being killed by the owners -- they are either body slammed to death, electrocuted, or shot!!! The fights are attended by the sick gamblers who make this 'sport' profitable. We need stricter laws and severe penalties for both the people who stage this torture and those who participate as bettors -- without the profit element, there would be no point in this. Maybe this arrest of a high-profile athlete will help to bring this horrible situation to the forefront so that more of us will rally against these monsters. That would be the up side of such a sad situation...

Claiming that he raised dogs to fight in competition
Electrocuted, drowned, body slammed and shot dogs
Had a rape stand to breed dogs (little does everyone, including the news, know that these are legal and a lot of pure breads are bread that way. It keeps the male from fighting during the whole ordeal)
Vick says he didn't know about it and his cousins have been living there running the whole thing. I could believe that since he rarely stays at that particular home. Then again it is his home and he is responsible for his guests and their actions
Dear Felix the cat...below..below what...below me
If profit was the element that sparked this dibaclacl then why was mikey in on it...he is loaded. Yes i know profits spur the sport but the excitment does as well.
The act of having dead animals like squirrls and rabbits to get the taste of blood is also the way people train coon dogs, rabbit dogs, bird dogs, varmit dogs, and coyote chasers. You included that as being as malicious as the beatings. Then you demand instant justice. Stop buying into all the media hype. With out this type of training man would have died years ago.

I don't condone what Michael Vick did or didn't do with his dogs. But I must say, as much as I love animals, we must remember animals are not human beings. The way the media is carrying on you would have thought he murder or raped someone. If what the authorities are saying is correct. Vick should be fined and that is the end of the story. But these groups like Peta and the bleeding heart media is making a mountain out of a mole hill. Give me a break want you. Animals are animals. People are human. Don't confuse the two, like their trying to do. These liberal activist are trying to equate animals with humans. Which is sick. Although some people act worse than animals sometimes. Lest not go over board with this , animals have the same rights as humans. Some people believe this. A stiff fine is all that Michael Vick deserves. And people need to get a life.

i knew nothing about this so i researched it. yes he deserves punishment and much more. as owner of a rescued pit bull terrier I have seen what these poor creatures have to over come. she is nine years old now and does anything i ask just to please and when I look in her eyes I can only imagine the cruelties inflicted on her in her first 14 months of life. she runs from all men in fear yet at five years of age she saved my daughters life from drowning in the ocean from an undertow. even jail sentences cant repay the cruelty these men and women involved in dog fighting have committed. people say that pit owners should have special licenses to own them but any dog done the way fighting dogs are will be mean. maybe everyone should prove them self responsible enough to own pets of any kind.

There is a petition through the Humane Society calling for the dismissal of Vick from the NFL. Until we begin to treat animals with compassion we can hardly call ourselves "civilized".

I would love to see just ONE celebrity treated like a citizen without a platoon of expensive lawyers- in other words, fairly sentenced. If Vick is proven guilty I want to see him in jail, fined out the butt, kicked out of football, and forced to pay back any money he's received from his endorsements.
To the commenter "Idol" - It's a proven fact that people who abuse animals abuse other people as well. It's also a proven fact that organized dog fighting is heavily tied to gang activity. And it's a proven fact that gang members kill people.
Animal abuse=human abuse. Nothing wrong with trying to 'nip it in the bud.'

Michael Vicks will probably get all the justice he can buy. Since no people were hurt, I am betting he will get probation, lose some endorsements and be out on the field for Atlanta sooner than you think.
Celebrities are usually able to buy their way out of most situations. Remember Sheriff Baca letting Paris Hilton out of jail?

You don't realize just how common dog fighting is, and you probably have dog fighters in your own neighbourhood. My suggestion to people who feel passionate about this issue, is if you're genuinely concerned and NOT just because it's Micheal Vick, join an animal rights/activist program, and become pro-active in helping stop this.

This is all true except for the ending up in prison part. I bet he gets off with probation and a fine from the NFL and is playing this season. Celebrities never get punished.
