My roommate's boxer/pit mix attacked my 4 month old puppy yesterday. He's not physically hurt, as we got to them quickly, but he's been very quiet and seeking affection and reassurance ever since. I'm worried that this may affect his relationship with dogs in the future, I don't want him to become scared or aggressive toward dogs because of this. He's young, so I assume I can work with him to prevent this. Any ideas?

Be sure to bring the dog outside and allow it to socialize with other dogs. Preferably dogs in it's age group who are about the same size. You pup will learn that not all dogs are going to attack and will be fine in the future.

Maybe try to set up a play date through your vet or other friends with a pup around the same age as yours. My vet even has puppy interaction classes once a month to help with socialization. Check into something like that. Hopefully, he'll see, "hey, its okay to play with other dogs,"

Hopefully, this hasn't effected him too badly. Clearly, he's still gonna be a little upset about it since it was only yesterday. But hopefully whatever you do will work out for the best.

I would take him out and about! Let him see that other dogs are ok! I am sure he will bounce right back to his normal self in a fw days! He was probably scared to death!!!
You could enroll him in some dog training classes, maybe take him for a walk in the park?
Good Luck!!

Give him lots of love and take him to places like Pet Smart, the dog park, where dogs generally are. When someone has a phobia treatment is exposure to the phobia. I doubt your dog will be traumatized for life if you work with her and get her out and around lots of dogs.

The best thing to do is get your dog more socialized, hopefully this will get his confidence back, your roommates dog was showing that he's the " Alhpa " dog in your house.

If your pup is 4mo old, you can start taking him to an obediance class. It will help him bond with you, and he'll gain a little confidence around other dogs.
But he may never like dogs bigger than him.

Yes, give him a few drops of Rescue Remedy available at most health food stores. He will quickly overcome his trauma. If he continues to be shy, give him Larch. To know more about Bach Flower Essences, go to the free online course at:
