If you mean sick as in vomit then yes this is likely, since charcoal is used to make animals vomit if they have eaten something poisonous that they need to bring up.

Your dog may vomit - let him, as long as this doesn't continue into the next day. I don't think the charcoal itself will harm him, but I would advise giving a vet a ring to check - this is the only advice you should really be relying on after all.

EDIT: Don't feed a dog (or cat) milk. Another splendidly rubbish bit advice from the good people at Yahoo.

If there aren't any chemicals then the dog will be fine. If there are chemicals on it then that is a different story, you should call your vet then.

Charcoal is useful in poisoning not because it makes the dog vomit but because it absorbs toxins. Think of your water filter like brita. It will make the dog constipated. I know I have ingested it before. It's chemical properties make it very close to activated carbon which is a what a vet would use. The main concern isn't the carbon but any chemicals they spray on it at the factory and any lighter fluid that remains from lighting it up. Hopefully the properties of the charcoal absorb the toxins. I hope things turned out alright.

As far as I know, he'll be fine. Don't be suprised if he pukes, though.
