mY 3 Bichon Frise boys have a small amount of my toast in the mornings and it hasn't done them any harm. Everything in moderation

Tell them to stop if it is bothering you.
If that doesn't work. . .
Human food can be bad for dogs if the wrong kinds are fed to them in excess. Bread is not bad as an occasional treat, but I would not suggest feeding it to a dog EVERY morning. Many people feed their dogs home made dog food, which is comprised of human food and some added nutrients. In fact, the best dog foods are those that would be suitable for human consumption, with the exception of corn - which doesn't do well with dogs (or us either if you really think about it!). Just be sure your dog gets a balanced diet and good dog food and she'll be ok. Watch her weight and if she starts to get pudgy, cut her back and eliminate the human food.

It's not exactly good no, in that it won't be doing her any favours. After all it's not part of a dog's natural diet is it?

Encourage your parents to stick to proper dog food. They're trying to make the dog happy, but the most likely thing is that she'll end up very fat if they continue feeding her on human food, and overweight shortens dog's lives and makes them grumpy! They need to think of her future health and get her on a proper diet - dog food only. She may sulk a bit at first if she's used to getting stuff from the table - it's just tough really. Once you start giving human food then of course it's what the dog learns to expect - they can also learn to stop expecting it and they'll be fine then.

'Spoil' is the right word - don't let your parents ruin this dog with bad habits that lead to bad health!

I had the exact same problem with my parents and my Sheltie. My previous dog had been a hard core beggar and I hated it, so I insisted that this new dog not be given table food. They blatantly ignored me and she became a hard core beggar as well.

While not great, bread is not bad for dogs. They can have allergies, but the one big bad thing you are looking at (besides bad manners) is a fat dog. That is just as bad for them as it is for us, and the vet bills go up with the pounds. If your parents are still paying the bills, point this out to them. If you are paying the bills, tell them to knock it off because it's your dog. If they need to give a treat make it bananas, carrotts, brocolli... Dogs love this stuff.

Good luck. As I said, I had no luck with my parents. I am now waiting until my current dog is gone before getting a new one so that any bad habits they get come from me alone.

When I was growing up, we fed all our dogs bread as a treat every once in a while. It's not bad for them- the great majority of dry dog food is made from GROUND GRAINS, like wheat and rice, just the way bread is !!! Even the really popular stuff, like Pedigree and Beneful is made that way and has ground wheat or corn as its primary ingredient. "Bob" is correct when she says dogs should never be given chocolate- it can kill them. Chocolate contains a stimulant that is closely related to tetrahydrocabinnol, or THC, which is the active ingredient in pot. That stimulant acts directly on the dog's CNS, and can cause the animal to have seizures or a stroke, not to mention a heart attack. But as far as giving a dog grapes goes, I used to do that all the time with my dog- and he is healthy and 10 years old now. I would give him grapes, carrots, apple slices, red bell pepper pieces, and bananas. Bananas, in fact, were his favorite treat- if he saw me eat one, he would sit and look at me until I gave him a piece or two of it. I never gave him more than a bite or 2, and it never hurt him. I have never heard of any dog coming to harm from eating raisins, either. Bread will NOT hurt your dog- as long as your parents don't feed it to her in excess. I have a relative who owns a dog that gets a medication for his arthritis on a piece of bread every day- that's what the vet recommended, because the drug, Metacam, is only available in liquid form.

Human food that should NEVER be given to dogs ( or cats, for that matter) includes chicken bones, steak bones ( except for ribeyes, which have a round bone in them that doesn't shatter easily) chocolate, most kinds of fatty or greasy meats, milk and dairy products, uncooked eggs, and fish that contains bones or bone fragments. It's okay to give a dog a flat bone, such as a ham or shoulder bone, or part of a hip bone. Cooked vegetables are good for dogs- they can eat things like carrots, peas, green beans, tomatoes and the like. You can also safely feed a dog certain cereal grains, such as oatmeal- indeed, there are special diet products on the market now that contain this ingredient. The only major problem with feeding human food is that your dog will get very spoiled by it and won't want to eat regular dog food after a while. Don't worry, though, she won't starve. Take away all her human food, feed her dog food, and just let her be. When she gets hungry enough, she will eat. Make sure she has plenty of water all the time, and take her out for walks so she gets exercise. This will help to stimulate her appetite.

Good luck, and I hope this helps.

Bread is not good for dogs. Grains are the number 1 cause of allergies in dogs. Bread is nothing but grains.

Good luck with your parents.
