My puppy has not had her first heat yet but I think one of the neighbor's dogs this afternoon might have "got her". Can she get pregnant before her first period/heat????? I did not get her spayed yet because one she just turned 6 months and also I was told it was better for the dog if they go through their first heat and then get them fixed is this also true?? PLEASE HELP!!!

They stand with thier sings telling how bad dog fighting is yet the founder of the group, Newkirk as stated she wishes to casue the extiction of the breed.

Most people have no idea that at many animal shelters across the country, any pit bull that comes through the front door doesn't go out the back door alive. From California to New York, many shelters have enacted policies requiring the automatic destruction of the huge and ever-growing number of "pits" they encounter. This news shocks and outrages the compassionate dog-lover.

Here's another shocker: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the very organization that is trying to get you to denounce the killing of chickens for the table, foxes for fur or frogs for dissection, supports the shelters' pit-bull policy, albeit with reluctance. We further encourage a ban on breeding pit bull.People who genuinely care about dogs won't be affected by a ban on pit- bull breeding. They can go to the shelter and save one of the countless other breeds and lovable mutts sitting on death row. We can only stop killing pits if we stop creating new ones. Legislators, please take note.

I know alot of you have heard me say in my questions that my dog listens to me on command. Except when it involves other people. She doesn't respect me as her leader when theres someone outside in the other yard. Or even if people are walking down the road. She's gotten hit by a car before because of this. Does anything have any ideas to make my dog stop running out into the road/ into my neighbors yard after them or their dogs? Another thing, she refuses to go to the bathroom on a leash, and my parents are too lazy to take her out on a leash anyway. So any answer besides a leash will help.

My dog is 87 lbs of muscles and four years old. He fell on poorly made steps today and broken his leg. The vet (not our normal vet as it is Sun) wants us to go to ortho surgeon and have a plate put in, others have said that can be complicated and plates can slip, etc. I cannot afford to redue thesurgery if it needs to be redone. Truthfully, I cannot afford the surgery at all as I don't have $3000 laying around the house. The other options are to cast it (she doesn't think this will work because he is so big) or to amputate. Any opinions?

I did not have time to drive 30 minutes away and buy the expensive flea treatment that I knew worked (Advantage). So... I bought the cheap alternative at the grocery stoere (Hartz). It claimed to kill both the fleas and the eggs. It didn't do much of either. It's only been two weeks and the poor baby is scratching herself to death, it seems to have made her worse. Can I put Advantage on her now to get rid of the fleas, or do I have to wait for a month? Any ideas on how to relieve her? Flea shampoo doesn't even kill all of these buggers.

A few days ago I took my 3 month old Siberian husky to the vet for her booster shot and d-worm. The next day she wouldn't eat her food. The brand was Iams and she didn't really like it, so I had a little Science Diet left and she just ate it. That was around 9 in the morning and when it was at 4pm she just ate the Iams that was left from the bowl I put there, so I went to petsmart and bought her Purina Puppy Chow and when I came home she seemed to like it. When it was dinner time she wouldn't eat from her bowl. I had to feed her by hand for 2 days and now today she didn't seem hungry. She always eat around like 9:15 and when I tried feeding her by hand she didn't seem hungry. I tried feeding her by hand at 10:15 and she ate it, not really hungry but normally. Oh yeah I tried putting the food in another bowl and that didn't work. Any suggestions???

We have a Black and Tan American cocker spaniel. He has 2 White spots one big one on his chest and one small one on his belly where his belly button should be. Is that normal for a black and tan dog?
Is there a web site where they show pictures of black and tan cockers? I have not found one, only other colours. I would like to see some other dogs the same colour. Is it not comon colour or do people not like this colour?

I am getting a dog soon from a shelter. I'm looking for a kind, sweet animal that loves to be loved. We will "share" this dog with my special needs daughter (who's very kind) and my mother-in-law who's an invalid and just wants to pet her/him.
Now, I'm looking at a male that's a mix but mostly border collie. He is 18 months but seemed calm. But when I took him out for a walk he was wild....

Don't get me wrong, I like Chihuahuas, but it seems like they are the new favorite dog of morons everywhere.
A big portion of the dumb questions lately involve Chihuahuas (spelled Chiwawa, or worse) and I am curious as to why all the sudden EVERYBODY has a Chihuahua. Did I miss something, or is it the dang Paris Hilton thing?
