They stand with thier sings telling how bad dog fighting is yet the founder of the group, Newkirk as stated she wishes to casue the extiction of the breed.

Most people have no idea that at many animal shelters across the country, any pit bull that comes through the front door doesn't go out the back door alive. From California to New York, many shelters have enacted policies requiring the automatic destruction of the huge and ever-growing number of "pits" they encounter. This news shocks and outrages the compassionate dog-lover.

Here's another shocker: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the very organization that is trying to get you to denounce the killing of chickens for the table, foxes for fur or frogs for dissection, supports the shelters' pit-bull policy, albeit with reluctance. We further encourage a ban on breeding pit bull.People who genuinely care about dogs won't be affected by a ban on pit- bull breeding. They can go to the shelter and save one of the countless other breeds and lovable mutts sitting on death row. We can only stop killing pits if we stop creating new ones. Legislators, please take note.

I am not a member of PETA, but I have never heard that they have the goal of wiping out any animal breed.

I will say that shelters are full of animals, and that animals that display agression are not as adoptable as animals who don't, so perhaps that is what you mean.

PETA can have some fairly extreme members, just like any group.

I agree that PETA takes things a little too far. I do think that fighting dogs is wrong though, and I hope everyone stands up for those poor animals. I wonder if the dogs form Mike Vicks place will be put to sleep after the trial? Has anyone heard?

I was just talking to my husband about all of this last night! We own three American Pit Bull Terriers, so we are obviously very against BSL, breed bans, etc and now I am against PETA as well! It's unbelievable to me that they would be worried about frogs, chickens, foxes, etc, but not certain dog breeds?! American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers and Staffordshire Bull Terriers don't deserve to be treated as well as a frog?!?!?! Some people are so disturbed, close-minded, heartless and ignorant that it really blows my mind! Our dogs are just as good, if not better than any other dog! Our dogs are our babies, they are very well trained, obedient, friendly, gentle, tolerant, stable, trustworthy, devoted, loyal, smart and they love everyone and everything! But because our dogs happen to be one of the three "pit bull" breeds our dogs deserve to die?! I really can't even say much on this, it just makes me sooooooo mad!!!!! All I know is I am for the ethical treatment of ALL animals so, I am VERY against PETA!!!!

It is not just about banning Pitbulls, it is just the beginning. Their goal is to wipe out pets completely. They are just starting with Pitbulls because of the fear people have of them and prejudice against them. Once they are able to get Pitbulls banned across the board they will move onto other breeds until owning a dog is illegal.

People need to wake up and realize what these bans and mandatory spay and neuter laws are all about. Education is the answer, not laws and bans.

PETA info isn't news.. It's been common knowledge for years that they have an agenda and that they aren't standing for what they pretend to.. They do plenty of killing themselves.

I understand your concern, but its a fact that pits tend to be more aggressive than other breeds. their breed for thier aggressiveness to be guard dogs or fighting dogs. An individual put a fighting pit on me once, the owner was drunk or stoned, dont know, dont care. luckly, i was able to kick him off and get in the back of a pickup. I pitty the dogs, but they are what they are. if a child, or an adult, catches a pit in just the right (or wrong) mood, that dog has a tendancy to attack, even the lovable family pets/

Peta needs to get rid of pit bulls, so idiots cant mistreat them and teach them to fight. Maybe if they werent around people would have more respect for them.
