I did not get her spayed yet because one she just turned 6 months and also I was told it was better for the dog if they go through their first heat and then get them fixed is this also true?? PLEASE HELP!!!

its actually better to get them fixed before there first heat cycle, it reduces the chances of ovarian cancer! and if she hasn't had it than she probably isn't pregnant. But I would take her to the vet and set up a date to get her fixed before she does go into heat!

No she cannot get pregnant but it is advisable to have her fixed before her first heat. It is a myth that a dog should go through her first heat before being spayed. The sooner she is spayed the less chance she has of cancer.

Is not possible for her to be pregnant if she hasn't had her first heat.

Its true that is better for the dog to wait until their first heat before get them spayed. Is better because in that way all her organs and all her bones would be developed. Mostly her hips, they would get more chances of getting hip dysplasia (spelling?) if you don't wait. The chances of waiting until their first heat and increase their risk of cancer is less than 1%. Dogs have to be spayed before they reach one year (maximun is 18 months). Some dogs get their first heat after 6 months, but some dogs get their period after, and some before that. But is better to wait until their first heat, its not a myth. Is medically better for the dog to go through her first heat and then spayed her.

Hore that helps...! =)

You don't have to wait for the dog's first heat. Six months is actually the perfect age to get an animal fixed.

Bad, bad, bad , bad. It's better to get them spayed before their first heat or they'll try to get to the otehr male dogs afterwared. Even if they're spayed. Just get her spayed as soon as possible. I heard from our vet that you should get them spayed between 5 -7 months... But that it's best to get them spayed at 6 months. I hope she doesn't get hurt tho. GL!

The answer to your last question is False.

Every heat the dog goes through increases its risks of mammary cancer.

Call the vet on Monday and make an appt. to have her spayed.
