I've lived in Texas for about a year now and a lot of people in my neighborhood shave their dogs in the summer. The dogs definitely seem more comfortable afterwards. People will tell you their coats will never grow back the same, but I think they look pretty much the same afterwards.
Just be careful with the sun right after you first do it, they can get sun burned, but your dog will be much more comfortable with shorter hair!

NO!!! Do not shave a Husky or any double coated breed! Their coat insulates them from both heat and cold, as well as protects them from the sun. Shaving the dog will only make her get hotter more quickly. She pants because it is HOT! That is a dog's way of cooling off since they cannot sweat. Huskies were not bred to live in the extreme heat of the south. Just keep her inside at the hottest parts of the day and limit exercise to early morning or late evening, make sure she has plenty of fresh water, and keep her brushed regularly.

Give your dog a break and give her a cut. You don't have to shave all the hair off so that she is naked. If you do it yourself, get clippers and cut the hair very short, kinda lika a crew cut. Or if you have it done, just tell them to leave a little hair. Don't leave your dog's skin completely exposed to the sun, just a close cut. The hair will grow back just fine. I knew a woman who shaved her husky every summer, and the dog looked like a normal husky during winter months.

DON'T shave her!!!! Her two coats help to keep her warm in the winter and cool in the summer. If you shave her, she won't be able to regulate her body temperature and she can easily die from heat stroke. If she gets hot during a walk try wetting her down with the hose, it will keep her cool long enough to get some exercise in.

Ok, so husky's it very common in hot weathered areas, to shave husky haired dogs, MY reason to shave, is the humidity in FL, I would say yes, they feel better and I do not have to sweep behind them as they walk. It allows the skin to breath, If you dog has any hot spots, or irritations it also helps.. thats the truth

I get my dog shaved during the summer it keeps her cooler.. I get the lion cut for her.. She looks like a lion it is so cute.. Or the fox cut which is also cute...My dog is a chow.. But remember that you also need to put baby sun screen on your dog if the cut is close to her skin..

Try to keep her in the house if you can, with AC on. Dont SHAVE the dog....I have a Border Collie...long-haired...and I keep him in the house...cuz its too hot in California.

She'll be much cooler shaved. The coat insulates against cold and traps heat.

I think you should. Dogs with alot of hair like yours, must get really hot during the summer. I'm sure she'll be alot more comfortable too.
Good luck,
