What's the deal with Chihuahuas?

Don't get me wrong, I like Chihuahuas, but it seems like they are the new favorite dog of morons everywhere.
A big portion of the dumb questions lately involve Chihuahuas (spelled Chiwawa, or worse) and I am curious as to why all the sudden EVERYBODY has a Chihuahua. Did I miss something, or is it the dang Paris Hilton thing?

Oh, by the way, not all Chihuahua owners are morons, and most are great. It just seems like more and more people that know nothing about dogs are getting them.

I do think it has to do with Paris Hilton. Young girls want to get a small cute dog as an accessary to go with their designer purse. I have seen people ask rediculous questions about small dogs and purses. They don't understand that a dog is a living creature, not a play thing that only needs attention when it has to look cute in their hand bag. I hope this ends soon. I have a feeling we are going to be seeing more Chihuahuas in animal shelters once these girls realize that dogs are living creatures that need to be taken care of.

And I agree that it is not all chihuahua owners, but just recently there has been a wave of 'chawawa' owners....

I have noticed that too.

I think, for some strange reason, the average Josephine Q Public who knows nothing about what a dog truly is thinks "it would be cute" to have a little creature to carry around and make them feel loved.

Unfortunately, a Chihuahua is a dog, like any small dog, like any medium dog, like any big dog, purebred or mix.
People don't THINK before they impulse buy.

People are too lazy to research and learn before they consider IF they should get a dog.

I really feel sorry for the puppies.

Puppies bite. Puppies pee and poo. Puppies chew. It is just what they do! It is not that they are bad. Nor stupid. It is just being a dog.

And the owner, supposedly being the "intelligent" of the two, needs to learn how to train their puppy!

Another frightening thought!!!! What when these people have children?!!

I think that the Paris Hilton thing got a lot of people interested in the chihuahuas, like my sister for instance. she at least isn't much of a moron and knows how to spell it. many people think that just because a famous star has a breed of dog, that it is easy to care for and everything.

I don't know why people like Chihuahuas. Maybe because they're small and don't eat much. but the Book of Lists has them listed as one of the meanest dogs by nature. Surprisingly, Dobermans are one of the most gentle.

I know what you mean. Me and my family own 3 Chihuahuas, and this was before the chi craze. We did our research and decided thats the breed we wanted. Now, people just want the tiniest unhealthy midget dog they can find. Not only do they want a Chihuahua, they want "teacups". Its just a craze to find the smallest dog.

How rude. I've loved Chihuahuas for years, and have had 3. Not everyone is influenced by so-called celebrities. They are a wonderful breed.

i have a chihuahua, but im not obsessed with them or anything. i really dont care about paris so it has nothing to do with her owning one. i like other dogs too, but i love mine, and i wouldnt trade him for anything. he has his own personality so he's unique.

i love chihuahuas.
i dont just like them cuz paris hilton has one.
they are obedient and loyal and loving dogs.
but yes ido think some people do want them cuz they stars have them.
