So I have a male Pug named Tater Tot that is 1 1/2 years old and I have recently considered getting him a girlfriend...and no, not only for breeding, I just want another Pug because I love them, I would only breed her a few times in her lifetime, I would just like to eventually keep one of the puppies so I will always have a part of Tater...but anyways, I just don't know if I'll be getting myself into trouble or not...exactly how hard is it to have a male and female dog that aren't fixed? Because I don't want her to get pregnant every heat cycle, so how do you know when she is about to be in heat, I mean, is it just a big pain in the butt? I will eventually get her fixed I'm sure, but I just wanted some of your guys' points of view on having a male and female dog and if it's stressful??

And before any of you say "Get him neutered, we don't need anymore stray dogs or dogs in shelters dying", it's nothing like that...I would keep them all as my own if I had trouble selling them! =)

I am fixing to get a puppy for the first time. I was told that the dog has been dewormed, and that all it needs is first puppy shots. I was wondering what all the first puppy shots included, and how much they would approximately cost.

The author of the article cited states these points which I would like arguments against: Cesar Millan hurts dogs, his traditional training methods are cruel, critics are not jealous of his success, critics have watched "The Dog Whisperer" and still criticize it, he doesn't rehabilitate dogs, others could help the dogs he works with, positive trainers have not said to euthanize the dogs he helps, other trainers techniques work just as well, Cesar doesn't educate himself, dogs get plenty of excercise, food rewards work with aggressive dogs.

The lump isn't soft, and it doesn't move. It's been there since we got him. It's the size of a small bouncy ball. We're making an appointment with our vet, but I am nervous and was wondering if anyone else has any ideas what it could be, or if anyone else has been in this situation before. Any information is appreciated.

Hi again, wanted to canvass opinions. I walk my 4 month old pup in our local park on an extendable lead. I do sometimes let him off to play with other pupps,,but always put him back on as he does not yet come back when called. Seems a shame to restrict him though, do people think it's worth risking him running away, well away from the road, for a good run or should I keep him on his lead until I'm sure he'll come back? I'm getting pressure from other dog owners to let him off his lead and am wondering if I'm being over protective? Thanks

My 6 mo. old puppy is like my child, okay, and I absolutely freak at the thought of putting him through pain. I almost cried when he whimpered while getting his shots, so when I think of how much pain he'll be in after surgery, I just don't want to go through with it. Also, I just think it's wrong to remove his body parts! He's a toy poodle and a house dog, so he's never around other dogs unless he's on a leash. He has a little stuffed bear that he humps occassionally (which keeps him from humping people) so I don't see why he needs to be neutered. He is literally, the sweetest most wonderful pooch in the WORLD and I love him just the way he is. Will the procedure really benefit my dog under these circumstances? I understand it's needed for outside dogs who roam a lot, but Bentley is ALWAYS on a leash when outside. Does he really need to have it done?

I am looking for a small to mid sized dog, short haired, not too hyper, that I can take travelling with me on weekends to rodeos. Does anyone have any input or suggestions?

We have a 9 week old GSD who loves to play in the park and is very active, but hates to walk. he doesn't mind the leash, but when we try to take him for a walk, even to go to the park (which is just around the corner), he will just lie down and you have to coax him to walk a few feet, and then he sits down again.

I have been in the process of looking for an apartment and 90% of them expect pet owners to pay $20 - $50 extra a month in pet rent. Isn't it enough that we already pay a pet deposit.

We feed her a bowl of food in the morning and it sits there pretty much all day. But as soon as something gets thrown in the garbage, even if it's a paper plate, she's right on it licking it and sniffing for more. When any of us gets something to eat, she sits at our feet and stares at us. Just stares. She acts insulted if we yell at her to get out of the garbage, and will follow us around if we have any food for ourselves. At meal times, she can be sound asleep somewhere in the house and as soon as I call the kids to wash up, she's at the table waiting for us to give her our food. We DO NOT feed her from the table and the only time she gets people food is if it falls on the floor and she gets to it before we do. We got her from the shelter almost 2 months ago and at first she messed in the house a lot. Now she's better with that and has a new issue. How can we fix this problem? Or is it something that is embedded into her? She's about 9 months old, black lab mix.

Who ever gives me the correct answer first wins.
Why does the Schnauzer have that mustache and eyebrows that they are known for? Its not to make them look more mature.
It had a perpus at one time.

God, I hate to ask this. We have a black lab for 14yrs now. She is so wonderful. She is getting up in her age and now has become deaf and the vet told us that she has an enlarged heart. She was on heart medications, but her being on that made her very slugglish and not eating well. We switched her meds, and same thing. The vet told us that we are real lucky to have her and two years ago he said to us, that we didn't have much more time with her.
She is now having a difficult time getting up the deck stairs which she needs to access the back yard. She constantly coughs due to enlarged heart, keeping us up at night. No heartworms.
I want to hold on to her as long as possible.
But, the question is, I don't know if she is in pain, or unhappy with life now. She wags her tail, and tries to play ball, but she can't and I think she is getting depressed about it.
Any other meds or suggestions? We love her dearly, but don't want to see her suffer.
