I was in a few dogs shows recently with my Golden Retriever- Zip.At our last show we got Grand Champion- 1st in Obedience and 2nd in Showmanship, it was a lot of fun! Are there any others who have funny/sad show memories?

I was in a first year member of 4-H, so we were in Sub-Novice and Novice. Pretty simple stuff compared to a AKC, but we did the best in our group.

At one obedience trial I was competing in Open B with my basset hound, Kermit the Dog (pictured in my avatar).

His off-lead heelwork and figure 8 were beautiful. Next came the drop-on-recall. He stayed perfectly, came as soon as I called him, dropped promptly on command....then flipped over and started rolling on his back. He ignored my command to come and kept rolling. The audience was in hysterics and the judge was laughing so hard he was in tears. Finally the judge walked up to Kermit and tapped him lightly with his foot, whereupon Kermit jumped to his feet and came in for a very nice finish.

I really don't remember how the rest of the routine went, I was laughing too hard.

May I be the first to commend you on a job very well done. It's not an easy thing to get those awards and for a golden it says so much about your dedication and showmanship!

Keep up the excellent work!

I always had fun at the dog shows. I also showed my first Golden Casey's Way . I was in the same spot as you with the awards. We did the next show got both Grand Champion in showmanship and Obedience. I was on cloud nine for quite some time. It was a very long time ago but I still smile every time I think about it. Thanks for making me smile for you today.

Great Job!

What type of dog show were you in?
Grand champion is not a typical Dog show win designation. Championship Titles typically have to be earned over time and as result of multiple wins. What level of Obedience?

As a teenager, I was the number one junior handler for several years. I have many good memories. It really gave me a boost of confidence when I needed it.
