Take him for walks. Go outside and spend some time talking to him and petting him. If he is in too bad a shape to do any of this, then maybe it is time to have him put down. My folks let this happen to my dog when I was a kid, and I've always regretted that we let him suffer as long as he did.

How on earth did you let your dog get this old without knowing the answer to this question already? Dogs are social creatures. They need to be inside with their people.

IF he is really old I would bring him in during the day - it is summer and the heat is probably not good for him. Then when he is in the house you can love on him all day long if you want to.

Treat him like he's a puppy: walk and play with him or if he's not up to it bring him in just so he can have love and affection! Gotta luv your dog!

You will have to get up off your butt and go outside and be with him! DUH Don't just leave him there alone - how sad and cruel. He is not a tree or a vase; he needs someone to care about him and spend time with him. And that does NOT mean just being in the same area with him.
