Just because he's blind? No.
Does he have other health problems? Is he really old or has lost his sight due to a degenerative disease? Does he have any quality of life? These are better questions to ask when wondering about euthanasia.
I had a blind German Shepherd for 12 years and she got along just fine. She even ran and played in the dog park with other dogs. I had another GSD mix that ran around with her, sort of acting as a seeing-eye-dog for her.

NO! I had a poodle that was blind and she lived for several years afterwards. you should still walk him, but keep him close. Also, he's learned where the furniture is, so don't rearrange it. This will confuse him and would be just plain mean. You may need to help him find things though. Be patient with him and I think you'll find him to be a wonderful companion. If not, return him to your breeder (if it was required at the sale-many reputable breeders take a lifelong responsibility for their pups), or find a Golden Retriever rescue. There are many people who would provide lots of love for the remainder of the dog's life. Blindness isn't causing him pain.

my parents had a dog that was already 5 years old when i was born. he was the cutest little black fluffy thing (pardon me, i dont really remember what he was, I was too small). When i was about 8, my mom got a wild hair one afternoon and rearranged the whole house; moved the furnature all about, the kitchen table to a different wall; the whole house looked different. Then we let our dog in the house. He ran into EVERYTHING!! This is how we discovered that he was going blind. He has memorized the layout of the house so he could get around and we never noticed anything odd about him. He lived with us for 3 more years before he passed away. We had to move the furnature back, but he was just fine. He wasnt in any pain though. If the blindness really distresses your dog, I would consider putting him down. I could never let my new little puppy live in pain, no matter how much it would hurt me to put him to sleep.

Please don't. Blind dogs do amazingly well. I have a chihuahua who is blind from glaucoma. She knows how to get around perfectly well. The vet says the sense of smell is far more important than eyesight. Stairs and obstacles are no problem. My shih tzu has become her "seeing eye dog". When they run in the yard the shih tzu will "herd" her so she doesn't run into the fence. If your boy doesn't have a buddy to help him out, it'll be your job. Goldens are VERY smart. He'll be fine!

If youv'e had your precious dog since it was a pup then he or she does'nt need eyes to know their way around the home.I'm sure he or she knows it like the back of their paw.As for going on outings you'll probably need to walk he or she on a leash till they are comfortable enough walking next to you without a leash. But still your pet will need to be close your body while going out with you other wise your friend deserves some patients and to know you have his or her back after all I'm sure your dog had your back and still does no matter what.If your pet is suffering beyond hope ,then yes don't let your friend suffer ever.Hope things turn out well for your dog and your family.

No! My cat is blind in one- and partially blind in the other! He lives a really good life, and is one of the best mouse hunters i have ever met!
Just because your dog has a disability, does not mean they should be put to sleep! With your help, she could be just a regular dog!
Oh- and you could be his seeing eye person ;D
Good luck!!
And don't- he deserves a chance!

No! Unless he's in a lot of pain, he's still living a quality life. My dog was blind for 4 years before we put her down for unrelated issues (severe cancer). She lived a great life and yours can, too. Continue to care for him the same way you have previously. If you don't want him anymore because of this (though I don't know why you wouldn't), please find a good home for him with people who will care for him. There's absolutely no reason to put a dog down for blindness alone.

NO! Do not put that innocent dog to sleep! He can't help it that he is blind! Give him love and care, blind ppl can do lots of stuff, and so can blind dogs! DON'T ever put an animal to sleep because it is disabled!

Dogs can led perfectly good lives blind. If you cant take care of him find someone that will, take a little extra time to find a good home were he can learn the invoriment and get all the love and care he needs.

Absolutely not. Dogs adapt very well to losing their sight as they are "scent" animals [okay, unless they are a "sight hound] and don't rely primarily on their vision. Many dogs lead great lives in a blind condition. Just make sure he knows where stuff is if you move the furniture and don't let him wander off your property.
