I have 5 yr. old chihuahua. This weekend we had to take him to the emergency hospital because his ear was very red with like blisters and pus was coming out of them. The bill came out to $300. While there I noticed to pet insurance brochure. When is it a good idea to get pet insurance. Which insurance is a good one. I also have a one year old weiner dog mix should I get one for her. Please someone educate me. This is the first time my chihuahua has gotten sick by the way, but since he is getting older I am afraid this will become more common.

I have a pit bull and he is one vicious dog. He's nice with me, but he seems like he's ready to rip other people and dogs into pieces. I only hope my leash is strong enough... When I go to the dog park he cant get along with other dogs either. He does not have any "friends"... Sometimes weeks would go by without anyone sniffing his butt. What can I do to make him more friendly?

I have 2 dogs & I was buying a large bag of Winalot in Tesco
and was standing in the queue at the till. A woman behind me asked if I had a dog. On impulse, I told her that no, I was starting The Winalot Diet again, although I probably shouldn't because I'd ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in
intensive care with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and the way that it works is to load your trouser pockets with Winalot nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry & that the food is nutritionally complete so I was going to try it again. Everyone in the queue was by now enthralled with my story, particularly a guy who was behind her.
Horrified, she asked if I'd ended up in the hospital in that condition because I had been poisoned. I told her no, it was because I'd been sitting in the road licking my balls and was hit by a car.

I am either going to buy an Alaskan Malamute or a Shih-Tzu for me as a pet and possible breeding dog. I am getting either of those because I know the price of both and I have found a pet shop and breeder of both to give prices and a pup to buy from. The Alaskan is $900 at the pet shop and $750 from a breeder while the Shih-Tzu is $1400 from a pet shop and $1100 from a breeder. Do I really get what I pay for? Saying that I should not buy from a breeder? I went to the American Kennel Club to look for both breeders and just went to my local pet shop to find both breeds. Either ways, any tips on finding a good breeder/pet shop, healthy pup and how to care for a dog? This will be my first ever dog that I have owned on my own. I once had a Collie mix but he died when I was 10 so I don’t remember caring for him much. WILL I GET WHAT I PAY FOR IN MY NEW DOG? Ps. I might actually buy both breeds but I don’t know yet. I might buy the Shih-tzu first then buy the Malamute later.

i have asked this lots of times but this time has different questions.

1. i want one that is small (maximun height would have to be the size of a springer spaniel) and will be ok in a apartment without a garden
2. i want one that does not bark much
3. i want one that has no wrinkles (for my mums sake)
4. i want one that is not a good guard dog/watch dog
5. one that is good with kids.
6. one that is popular, so easy to find good breeders.
7. one that is not prone to back problems (breeds like corgis and dachchshunds)
8. dogs that like to be stroked
9. i want one for a friendly, companion that will greet me with a wagging tail. (but i don't want it to go as far as jumping all over me!)

plz help! i have been researching and have over 20 dog books but they all say different things, HELP!

beautiful Ginger and no one has taken her place. I miss her. Whenever I read the Rainbow Bridge it makes me weep. People that never owned one will never know what they are missing will they. One of the funny things she could do is stare at me quietly across the room while I was sleeping and it would wake me up so I could let her out. On the other hand she could steal blankets off my bed without ever waking me up lol Thanks you all...Mmm

I have two new male dachsund puppies. They are both 6 weeks and old and are littermates. I was wondering at what age I could get them neutered? Cost? and whether or not it's beneficial for anything besides not reproducing. Thanks

My girlfriend and i are planning to move in together. She owns a Pitbull, i own a Doberman. Plus her cousin wants to move in and he owns a Rotweiler and a pet Python snake. (We would never let the snake and the dogs interact we are not sure it's safe) But what about the dogs? We know all 3 breeds have extremely strong personalites, can be loyal, protective, and fierce guard dogs, but with proper training can they all coexist in the same house? Or do some breeds just don't mix?

So, my 15 (or older) chihuahua that I rescued 10 years ago is starting to go downhill, Im afraid. When I feed him I separate him from all the other dogs because he eats soft food for becasue he hardly has any teeth (he was like that when I adopted him) He usually is a slow eater but I bring over one dog and out of fear that the other might eat his food he gobbles it up. Now, just recently, he has started laying next to his food growling like crazy and not eating hardly. I can barelly get him to eat over half of his meal. Is there something wrong? I know it is not physical because he recently got checked out. I think he might be losing his mind. I love him sooooo much but I am afraid at how old he is.

Okay so we adopted a five month old female dog (boxer and heeler mix i think) from an animal shelter in december. The problem is that she keeps digging holes under our fence to get out of the yard. She always has food and water, so its not like she's hungry and we have a large yard as well, so she has plenty of room to run around, she was also spaded and she doesn't go into heat, plus we have two small dogs as well and they don't do it. No matter what we do its seems that she finds somewhere to dig and gets out. Why would she do this and what can we do to stop it.

My dog is already 7 years old, but we bought him after he was mis treated, so it was always stuck in his head. My dog is VERY VERY territorial. he is a fairly small dog, about 13 lbs. when he bites, do you yell at him or what. dont think im an idiot for saying that, but we've tried everything and we cant stop it.

My Pom dog (11) has always been SO in charge, even bullying. Lately the younger female (5) has been challenging him, and even charged him this evening! They are both fixed. Is this normal? Should I interfere? He is older, but still bigger than her, so I am afraid of what will happen when I go to work.
