My parents are older, like in their late 50s and are good people and love animals but I recently found out that they are keeping their dog in a crate all day long!! (l live far away from them and found out on a recent visit) I mean the dog is well fed, groomed and loved, but only gets out of the crate/cage 3 times a day...1 hour for morning, 1 hour for afternoon, 1 hour in evening...to relieve herself, and run around. So she is crated 21 hours a day, 7 days a week

Is this abuse? It certainly doesn't seem right. They say the dog is too rambountiuos and will run upstairs and poop in the bedroom if they let her run around unsupervised. Not that that matters, I still think it's wrong. Do you all agree? What should I do?

ive never heard of an agressive boxer. and some people put them in the smae catigorey and pittbulls! you hear about pittbull attacks all the time, but never boxers. so i dont know, its annoying though. they are restricted at alot of "dog friendly" apartments, hotels, and such. every boxer dog ive ever known has jsut been a big sweet goof.

When I got my puppy at 2 wks old I was told she was shar pei/black lab. A leasing agent at my apts. saw my dog and says she has pitt characteristics and threatens to evict if I don't "get rid" of my dog or get a letter from a Vet stating that in their opinion she's not pitt. Well, I haven't found a very helpful Vet so far which is surprising since there's really no risk to them for writing a letter about breed origin. Meaning mix breed determination is inconclusive (there is no scientific method, blood test, etc.) that can prove a dog is of a certain breed. So why won't anyone help me? I have researched "breed specific" ordinances and legislation, and I know that I would have an almost air-tight case if they evicted me and it went to trial. But I don't want it to go that far. I want to get the letter from a vet, keep my dog with me, and not get evicted, and I'm desperate to do that. Queen is a sweet 2 1/2 year old dog who loves me, loves children and I don't want to lose her.

My husband and I have both grown up with dogs and been around our whole lives! Right now we have 2 american pit bull terriers. We got Brooklyn (our 1 year old) 10 months ago and he has been a great! Just like with any puppy we had to train him and all that, but we never had any real problems with him. He is so smart, he learns really quickly and he is very obidiant! We got Destiny (our 4 month old) about 2 months ago and she is a handfull to say the least! Like I said, we have been around dogs our whole lives, we have had to train many dog.. all dogs learn at different rates and some are more stubborn than others, but Destiny is way more stubborn than any dog either of us have ever seen! We cant get her to go to the bathroom outside no matter what we do... everytime we tell her no or try to teach her something all she does is bark and wag her tail! I dont know if she is trying to play or if she thinks shes dominate!? She will be a pretty big dog and I am starting to get worried! Help!

My bf and I had nacho's for dinner the other day - we had left overs and he fed them to his and my dog. I told him not to feed it to my dog because its not good.

He was also feeding his dog lollies (snakes) I told him not to give anymore to my dog, he still did.

Also his dog will eat dinner, then will eat the left overs of what he and I don't eat no matter what it is, lasagna etc. His dog is unhealthy and obese - I dont want my dog to be like that.

My mum wanted to give my dog pizza and I told her not too. She will most likely still do it anyways.

Is food like this really bad for a dog or am I over reacting. Even if its not bad for dogs - if I say I dont want my dog eating it shouldn't people listen.

I just read online to give her bread, so I did, although it might not matter now.

When I got home this afternoon i saw that she puked 14 times, there are tons of chicken bones.
Will she be ok? Should I take her to the vet?

I have a new pomerainian puppy. We have had her for about a month. She is a wonderful puppy. And also very adorable and sweet and innocent. When i ever take her on her leash to walk outside and go do her duty, she may do it most of the time. But sometimes, she will bite my ankles and growl while she is doing it. I think it is cute and so does my family. But when i pick her up to go inside, she Growls and bites my fingers or my face. Whenever she pees i don't slap her, don't actually "RUB" her nose in it, i show it to her and firmly say NO BAD GIRL. And lately when i do that she freaks out and bites my face or hands ? She has gotten the right shots and is perfectly healthy ? Why is she doing that ? What can i do to make her stop

Thanks,
Megan

BLS is a flawed concept from the moment it is conceived. In most cases the dogs are targeted leaving the owner, which is the responsible, rational thinking party out if it. Some impose fines along with their laws but are often no enforced to the maximum so the owner gets a slap on the wrist.

Dogs are not the problem and BLS dose not recognize this. People are the problem and until we find a way to punish people for their neglectful actions which allow dogs to bite and terrorize the public we will never stop the problem.

First problem is take one breed away, these people will find another breed to replace it. In most places were APBT have been ban the rottweiler is now on the rise as the most popular breed. Now they are taking the heat from BLS and its supporters. They will agin restrict a breed just to have another take its place. This will happen till they run out of large breed dogs and we have lost our right to have the breed of dog we love. BLS can be compared to gender and racial profiling.

Media reports lead the public to believe that packs of roaming Pit Bulls are more likely to bite than the neighborhood dog on his leash. Over 80% of dog bites occur when the dog is with its owner or ON his owner’s property. A large number of small children are bitten by dogs they know while visiting the dog’s home. Because stories of pit bulls stimulate fear, the media is likely to report all cases of biting pit dogs or pit mix but oit stories of injury by poodles and spaniels [which is the most frequently reported biters]. In addition, the media reports “attacks” when guarding breed barks at or chases someone even when no one is injured. This adds to the public’s perception that this type of dog is more dangerous than any other dog. Some statistics lump several breeds into one category and report that “ PIT Bulls” cause more serious bites that any other breed. This would be similar to counting all bites inflicted by Retrievers [Golden, Duck Tolling, Flat Coats, Lab, etc.] and comparing that total to bites inflicted by miniature wirehaired Daschunds. It would appear that Retrievers are much more dangerous than the Daschunds.

A report about the local Labrador Retriever that attacks and maims a child isn’t considered newsworthy No one wants to believe that any family dog, the cute and fuzzy kind, are capable of biting. It’s much easier to blow up and sensationalist a story about a vicious dog when it’s a member of a breed who’s reputation precedes it. Pit Bull are already considered the demons. All reporters have to do is stand in front of the camera, look horrified and say, “A pit bull did it.”

So why is it then that more BLS laws are implement daily? God forbid a person have to take responsibility for their irresponsible actions and BLS supports these people by not placing very harsh punishments on them.

She eats our regular puppy food, but sometimes we like giving her leftovers. Maybe chicken and whatnot. Is that harmful to her? She's a terrier mix.

And are there any fruits and vegetables that are good for the puppy to eat?

Friday, my dog drank a whole bottle of baby oil. On saturday and sunday she was laying around a lot and seemed sick. Today she woke up just fine and ate a bunch off grass outside(Which I'm sure she is going to throw up).

Should I be worried?

I have a 7 year old chihuahua who doesn't want to eat anything but chicken or beef. If I try feeding him dog food, he will just not eat it and he looses weight very easily so he starts getting very thin. I have bought him pedigree puppy food because atleast he will eventually eat that but if I buy him regular dog food he will not tounch it at all. I want him to have a healthy balance diet but I would like suggestions on dog food that picky dogs love and that its also good for them. thanks!

I'm trying to make my dog less anxious and perhaps bond physically with him, but I'm not going to lick his face (or anywhere else, for that matter). I was curious if the action of petting is supposed to simulate licking (grooming).

could it have a evect on her babys. i mean this woman breed dogs espasisly small dogs outside in a cage. and very neglictend. can it have a affect on baby. the thing is she is 4 monts old the most beutiful baby i saw. now the problem is sometomes not all the times while she is sleeping all of a sudden she wil wake up and had a wet dream. i think she was dreaming thats shes outside having her pee/pee.this does not happen often. i have 9 doags that sleep with me on my bed, min pinchers. is it a after effect from mommy being neglegted and abused sleep outside in the cold in ( not kennels the cage is about 3feetx 3 feet big with 6 dogs in it. is it bad ( well Ithink so) a puppy can hear that somethings wrong with mommy while she is carring my ( i feel thye can hear as much as a unborn baby what is going on outside the world. so she must be under emotional stress, that must be the reason she is peeing axcedently while she is sleeping

I have been taking my dog out like normal, but he will not always poop, and he has been doing it in the house and it has been normal, but sometimes, especially the last 2 days, has had little blobs of jelly like blood. I have made him an appt to take to the vet, but does anyone out there have any ideas as to what it could be?
I have not changed his food, and no big changes have occured at home. He does not seem sick, he is still hyper and very active.

I have a small mixed breed male dog, and he loves my son who is mentally handicapped and autistic. The dog is affectionate towards my husband and myself, but he absolutely loves our seven year old son. Do you think he knows there's something different about him? He is also really protective towards him.
