I have a 7 year old chihuahua who doesn't want to eat anything but chicken or beef. If I try feeding him dog food, he will just not eat it and he looses weight very easily so he starts getting very thin. I have bought him pedigree puppy food because atleast he will eventually eat that but if I buy him regular dog food he will not tounch it at all. I want him to have a healthy balance diet but I would like suggestions on dog food that picky dogs love and that its also good for them. thanks!

Pick a very high quality dog food and feed only that and nothing else.
At this point the dog knows if he doesn ot eat something better is comming along.
You need to be looking at much higher quality foods than Pedigree for a Chi. They are so tiny and you need to be sure what you are putting in is the very best quality your can afford. They do not eat much so what they do eat should be good stuff.
Please look at www.dogfoodanalysis.com and try to feed one of the 5 or 6 star rated foods.
When you make the change it will be hard but do not give in feed only the dog food and nothing else.
The pup will be less picky after going hungry for a day or so.

The top answerer is right on the money. Your dog knows he is going to get real food, so why eat what you want him to. He knows what works. Stop giving him human food. He will eventually eat his food.

I have two Chi's. I give them Nutro Natural Choice small bites. I too had a hard time getting them to eat other food. I wanted them on healthy natural food without byproducts. They would not eat anything but Iams. I don't think Iams is the best. I but Nutro now. They love it. It is not that expensive. Especially for Chi's. They just don't eat that much.

well stop feeding him the crap of pedigree . get him on a holisitic diet . it is the only way to go . I have 2 chis and they are picky as well . but one has a food allergy and I have to watch what eats constantly . so holistic is the only way to go with all these brands being recalled as well . mine did the same way yours did untill i put him on the holisitic food and now he is not picky at all . good luck and I hope I helped.

There is small breed dog food if you search for it - try Petco or Petsmart for food. Cat food is too high in protein and you will have a sick Chihuahua in a short time. Do NOT let the dog have access to the cat's food.

You're right to want a healthy diet for your pet!! Feeding them just people food will make them sick after awhile--it's not balanced & there is no fiber. My mom has the two pickiest yorkies. We found a perfect, holistic food that they love.
