I guess Im in a weird situation...
a little over a week ago I rescued a stray dog that walked up to my store (off of a major highway in our town).
shes a 22 pound blue heeler and oh so precious! I took her to the vet and she ended up having hook worms but I got medication to rid them.

the problem is, the poor pup is deaf.. she doesnt hear a thing and I mentioned it to the vet (just to make sure) and he agreed with me.

the vet also said shes no older than a year, and i havent had her that long so as far as i know she was never trained for anything. but my question is, how do you train a deaf dog?

at first when i found out, it killed me to know the poor thing was deaf. i felt pity for her, but now i think its making me love her even more because shes special, im sure you guys know what i mean :)

any pointers, or anyone else have a deaf dog?

thanks guys!

We've just taken in a stray, young female shepherd. Never had a dog before; we have 2 adult female cats.

*What should I expect?
*What supplies do I need to buy for her?

Any advice??

My "Honey" (cocker spaniel) of 14 years passed in 2006...I think I'm ready to purchase a new baby, but I work fulltime and go to college partime. My boyfriend (we live together) works fulltime and will help when I go to school at night. But I want back up for my baby for those times I can not get home right away to walk or feed him/her. If anyone knows a good website or reference it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I have a dog that we got from the pound, we have had him 3 months, he is 16 months old. He is a very good dog when we are around. When we leave him alone we have a problem. He will get into everything. He does not chew things up , but he will take sheets off the bed, take things off the table, empty the clothes hamper etc. I know there must be an issue of seperation anxiety due to the fact that he was abandoned once. I have a big kennel but I hate to leave him in that , he is a big dog ( american foxhound). Would a muzzle while we are gone to the grocery store or out to dinner to harsh? We can not even go to the neighbors for a cup of coffee and he trashes the house. Suggestions and help please. He knows he is wrong, because when we walk thru the door he runs and hides under the bed!

Our back yard is fensed in and our dog lives there. The neighbor's dog is digging into the back yard at least twice a week. We've tried talking to the neighbor (that hasn't worked). We've called animal control. (they come out and tell them to confine the dog) The neighbors do that until animal control leaves and then he's back the next day.

Last night I woke up and wanted to check on my 4.5 month puppy. I walked around the bedroom and called her name and she didn't answer. I turned on the light and she was laying in the dirty clothes basket. It was so unexpected I burst out laughing. She looked at me with the expression "What is your problem, I'm trying to sleep here?!" My question, where is the weirdest place your pets have snuck off to?

I am getting a small-breed dog(pomeranian mix). I need to know what tests/procedures a dog needs yearly and/or monthly to help me choose a vet office. The dog will already be spayed/neutered.

My neighbors (whom I get along with- but we aren't close) has two pit bull dogs that literally broke through my privacy fence and KILLED the duck that I bought for my son for Easter. The duck was 3 days old when I got it about 7 days before Easter. So the duck was just over 1 month old and the neighbor's dogs broke through my fence and killed "Ducky". I am now concerned that since the dogs have the taste of blood, and that they ATTACKED, that my son could now be in danger of getting attacked by their dogs. Any ideas on what I could or should do about this? It happened Monday, 5-14, 2007.

If I play with him and he gets happy and starts to wag his tail, it wags but still stays down. The tail that was once up while peeing is now down. I don't know what happened. Tail that was up while on a walk is down? I don't get it.

Hi, this is a question to Westie owners (or other terriers). We have a Westie who farts quite a bit, and sometimes has soft stole. He's 6 months old, and is a very active little guy, very. We know its his food (there was no farting prior to the food). We feed him Wellness fish and sweet potatoe formula (very good quality food).

Our breeder used to feed him Iams and we noticed a skin alergy, which is why we switched to good quality food. The skin alergy has almost fully disappeared but farts have appeared instead. What type of food do you other westie (terrier) owners feed your dogs? Please don't answer "he has parvo". He's, like i said, very active, does not vomit, does not always have soft stole, has all of his shots, and we have been to the vet twice before just in case. Plus, we know that westies and other terriers are very prone to food alergies--he fits the bill.

Thanks!

I have a white boxer. He was so young and seemed so happy and healthy. Then the other day, he was laying outside and wouldnt get up. Come to find out he died. I have no idea what happened to him. All I know is that I miss him and I love him.

I know white boxers tend to be deaf or blind but he wasnt. Do white boxers have other health problems, like maybe heart defects? O I miss him so much

I have tried many chew toys, the only thing that keeps her occupied for long enough is a bully stick. Most things that are on the ground, she thinks is for her. I don't know if it is a phase, or if it will go on forever.
