Puppies need a lot of rest and a lot of sleep. The lack of it can affect their temperament, and their bone growth.

Why not teach puppy to take a nap right next to you?

Leaving a pup outside "all day" isn't a good idea. Dogs are pack animals and need to be with their "pack".

First of all, how old is your puppy? Most healthy puppies sleep alot during the day anyway. I can understand that you need some independent time away from your puppy to do chores, errands, etc. You could consider getting the puppy a crate ? Or give him a pen where he would be safe. I would recommend only confining him/her after ample exercise and only for short periods of time. Depending on age- for a puppy- I would do half an hour to an hour. Routines are great for puppies. They can learn what to expect from us. Also it teaches the puppy that it is OK to spend some time away from his humans.

Its good for your puppy to have a routine just like you. That way your not up all night with them barking or whimpering wanting someone to play with them. There is absolutely nothing wrong, heck my dog (now 7) is in a routine when i'm away at college to go to bed at like 9 pm when my dad goes to bed, and gets mad when I come home from school and don't go to bed til 11 or 12. He'll sneak under the bed to be in a dark place so he can sleep.

I do not think it is good to isolate him from you. In a wolf pack, if a puppy is isolated it leaves them open to predators. so, it is actually terrifing for a puppy to be left in isolation like that. Isolation should only be used for a few minutes, for a severe infraction. It would be better to keep him in the same room at nap time. They usually go to sleep on their own when they are tired. Or it would be better to show him how safe a crate is by placing treats in there for him to find, so he decides for himself it is a good place to be, and you can have your personal time.

No, you are not doing any harm. Puppies need rest too and you dont want a dog to need constant attention, it can lead to issues later on.

when i was training my pup, i just had a folded blanket that i put in the living room so that he would still be around me, since dogs are pack animals and need to have company, but able to lay down and sleep if he needed it. be sure that if you have a place that you want him to sleep then make it so that he knows thats where he is to go when you tell him to lay down.

well creat trainning is great. feed them at the same time in the morning. let them out befor and after their meals. after they go out and pee. congradulate them by letting them play. puppies get time outs too! and schedules! you will controll when they pee and when they will pooh! also no water after last meal. they need to learn to go to bed and not have to go at night. my dogs have their own rooms and bed times.....they are cool.. and nevr wake me up at night unless they are sick.
the crate cant be in a room with you during trainning..mabey downstairs..they will cry and whimper while they get used to it. just like babies..be creative. time outs.....play times...nap times....
