Our back yard is fensed in and our dog lives there. The neighbor's dog is digging into the back yard at least twice a week. We've tried talking to the neighbor (that hasn't worked). We've called animal control. (they come out and tell them to confine the dog) The neighbors do that until animal control leaves and then he's back the next day.

Thanks for the imput....... I have called animal control 10 times, I have took the dog to the shelter on my way to work, the owners paid the fine, and picked up the dog that afternoon, the dog was in my yard the next morning. As far as law suit, that will only cost me, they have nothing to sue for! And I don't think I should have to spend anymore money on fensing because my dog is not the problem.... at this point I really like the idea of the gun! But keep the suggestions comming!!!

My dad has had to use a bb gun on our neighbors dog maybe a pellet gun i dont know exactly nothing to hurt the dog to severely, because not only does he drive our dogs insane (4 of them) he also chases our ducks and sheep. However, that only lasts for a day, we've actually had to go to their house and put him back on his chain. I feel bad but the dog is ridiculous when it comes to terrorizing our animals. If your neighbors wont' do anything you might want to talk to the authorities, continue to call animal control and or a lawyer. Usually when the dog comes over to our house we aren't friendly by petting it, we just tell it to go home. Its a really nice dog he just doesnt' know how to be nice to the animals.
Goodluck with everything!

It should be to the point where animal control can charge them a fine. They need to keep their dog contained.
My parents had neighbors a few years back who had a giant newfie, she would be on their front steps every day at 5. Finally my dad brought her to animal control and the neighbors had to pay to get her out. The dog was confined to her yard after that.
Sadly most people dont care until they are hit in the wallet.
Good luck!

Talk to a lawyer and bring suit against neighbor for distruction of property.
take pictures of the fence
get copies of the Animal Control reports
Keep receipts for repairs to the fence.
Keep calling animal control.
Not easy. Expensive. But this owner shouldn't have the dog in the first place.

HEY I SEE ALL THESE ANSWERS LIKE USE A GUN WHATS UP ITS NOT THE DOGS FAULT. IT IS THE OWNERS.
These people shouldn't own a dog if they cant controll it.
I would talk to them again and see if they do want there dog taken away because that is what they will do if people complain too much about them.
And maybe the dog shouldn't be there.
BUT DONT HURT THE DOG _ YOU KNOW ITS NOT HIM IT IS THE OWNERS YOU NEED TO DEAL WITH.

I am a bit confused. Exactly why is the dog digging to get into your yard? Do you have a dog that is possibly in heat (female) or a male dog that the dog is trying to fight with? It sounds to me like the dog is very lonely and looking for companionship ( possibly it just wants to play with your dog.)
You might try putting your dogs poop in the holes. This will possibly keep the dog from digging. I know it sounds gross. Or you might set mouse traps and cover them with newspaper and when the dog goes to dig - then when the trap goes off it will scare the dog.

Repair your fence, hon, That may include a concrete trench below the fence.... I'm sure you can figure out the rest.

bullet lead to the head - you could get an underground fence but since its your neighbors dog and not yours causing the problem you shouldn't be the one to pay for it.
