Not at all. He either needs to follow thru with replacing the dog, or start taking it in for obedience training to help you out, and include you in the training.

If there are difficulties and you don't want to do it, it is considering yourself, in a positive way, to say you won't do it anymore. Your friend would be selfish, in a negative way, if he held it against you for not wanting to take care of the dog anymore. If the person cuts off a friendship with you over this situation, they weren't a real friend to begin with.
Sometimes there are misunderstandings and they take awhile to sort out. Your friend may not have realized how much you did NOT want to care for the dog.
Hope it all works out for you, and it is reasonable that you don't sit for a dog, a kid or a turtle if you don't like them or if they are too much to manage for you.

Nope not selfish at all ! Really, it would be the same as caring for a misbehaved human child. Just because the owner or parent won't properly train or discipline their dog, doesn't mean you should have to. But be honest with your friend. tell them you wouldn't mind but the dog is not behaved and that makes it hard on you and possibly the friendship. You should not feel guilty or ashamed. The dog is not YOURS right ?

Well, If your friend has a difficult dog and is not willing to put the time into properly training the dog, he cannot expect you to take responsibilty for the dog. If it is someone elses dog, they need to be responsible for making sure the dog is being trained. If you can't handle it, that is fine, it is not your dog. If you were tryinig to help him out by caring for the dog, and you cant manage it that isnt the fault of you or the dog. His owner needs to take responsibility.

It is dangerous to the dog, you and the general public to take care of a dog you can not manage. Tell him he needs to train the dog if it is a training issue or take him to a kennel. You might call around to trainers and kennels and suggest alternatives with him. You are not doing anyone a favor if the dog is a problem for you. If he bites you or the public it is more bad publicity for his breed..

Nope not at all.. If the dog isn't well behaved and is hard to take care of.. Why should you take on his responsibility, and have what could be a liability under your care.. He should train the dog, so that he can be leaving it with friends, or he should board it at all kennel.. Unfair of him to even ask you if you have a hard time w/ the dog.

NO, it is a wise choice because it keeps the animal from putting further strain on your friendship.
Just put your foot down firmly, but with lots of respect and admiration for your friend. If he is truly your friend he will recognize the imposition and solve the problem. And realize that you do not have to solve the problem for him.
Actually, it would be selfish on his part to insist that you continue, especially since you have voiced your difficulties.

are you talking about watching the dog for a friend whie he is out of town or something? or did you adopt this dog from his care? i'm a little confused on that. If it's just watching the dog while away, it's not selfish to say you would rather not since he is hard to handle.

No it's not selfish. I think you did the very best you could and now the real owners need to step up for the care of their dog.

No, it's not. If the dog needs some training, perhaps you can suggest what type of changes he needs to make in his dog's behavior in order for you to take care of the dog again.
