We drove from Arizona to Pennsylvania a few months ago with our Lab/Shep mix dog. We have a mini van and we were able to create a whole bed situation for her in the back with her doggy bed. We gave her familiar toys to have with her. We also stopped every few hours to walk her around. Many hotels allow pets. Some charge a fee, some don't. Look online ahead of time. At night, we would give our dog a child's dosage of benadryl to help her stay calm in the weird surroundings. It worked pretty well. You could also ask your vet for advice. Good luck! That's a long drive with all those pets!

3 years ago we moved from Indiana to Texas with 3 dogs and 1 cat. What was best for me- I let all the animals out of there crats to roam free in the car. I hated hearing the cat meow for hours..At one point the cat was in the front window. We got lots of points and funny looks. But they were calm. Comfort inn is awesome about letting you bring pets.
Cats hate car rides but as long as you stay calm and talk to them in a calm voice you should be okay..
Good Luck!

I moved from Colorado to South Carolina with three cats. Days Inn were the best place for us to stay. Most of them accepted pets. As far as keeping your older dog calm, ask your vet if a mild sedative would be appropriate. Good luck with your move.

A lot of hotels will let you have the animals in the room. We jsut did it with 2 cats and a hamster. Days inns or Red roof inns ussually work good. Enjoy the ride.

Hello CRATES..it is against the law to travel with pets not tethered or in a crate in a car..especially in accidents if they get loose ..ended up with a Corgie like that..the car rolled, the corgie went out the window and took off down the highway..thankfully dodging traffic..so took her till her owners got out of the hospital ...The HAPPY Ending..Take Care :)

If she likes car rides anyway (most dogs do), it shouldn't be a big deal keeping her calm. I'm sure the AAA will list motels that allow pets. You might have to book a bit earlier.
