It depends on the age of the pup. If under four months, definitely take the pup out. She is physically incapable of waiting until the morning to eliminate. Once she is four months or so you can start to hold out a bit longer to take her out until you don't need to do so any longer.

This depends on the age of the puppy. If the puppy is 2-3 months old nighttime potty breaks are almost always needed. At this age a puppy can usually go 4-5 hours during the night without a potty break. At 4-6 months nighttime potty breaks may or may not be an issue. At this age a puppy can usually go 5-8 hours at night without a potty break. Over 6 months a puppy should be able to go 8-9 hours without a potty break. A good system for potty breaks during the day is no more than one hour per month of age up to 10 hours. Our puppy is 5 months old and can be crated at night for about 7 hours, he lets us know when he has to go, then comes back in and goes right back into his crate. Ignoring a puppy's cries at night for potty breaks may lead to trouble with housebreaking during the day.

A side note: if he is crying for reasons other than he need to go potty, do not let him out of his crate or he will continue to associate crying with getting what he wants. Our puppy constantly cried through the night until we moved his crate into our room...we haven't had a problem since.

puppies need to go out every 2 to 3 hours for the first few months of life. If your puppy is crated at night and starts whining, you need to take him out to do his business, but don't play with him or he'll think it's ok to whine each night when he wants to play. after a few months, the intervals at which your puppy will need to go out will start to be longer, and when he reaches adulthood, he should be able to hold his bladder and bowels for up to 8 hours. keeping your puppy crated overnight without a potty break would be the equivalent of letting a baby keep a soiled diaper on. Puppies consider their crate to be their bed, and most of the time, they will not soil in their bed unless they can't help it any longer. you wouldn't use your bed as a toilet and your puppy doesn't want to either. good luck.

all true. if your puppy is very young, you should get up and take hime outside. just be sure to put him right back in his crate when you come in so he knows it is still sleep time. i remember when my dog was a puppy, getting up in the middle of the night two or three times. man, it was like having a baby all over again! but pretty soon, before you know it, your puppy will sleep through the night and go out first thing in the morning. the time will fly by and before you know it, they are housebroken. good luck.
