beautiful Ginger and no one has taken her place. I miss her. Whenever I read the Rainbow Bridge it makes me weep. People that never owned one will never know what they are missing will they. One of the funny things she could do is stare at me quietly across the room while I was sleeping and it would wake me up so I could let her out. On the other hand she could steal blankets off my bed without ever waking me up lol Thanks you all...Mmm

For those of you that don't get it you must have never owned a Dobie. Mine was even more unique than most because my friend finished 14 champions and she said mine was the most human one she ever met. I would smile at her and she would smile back. If I pretended to howl or told her to sing she would throw her head back and sing away. When we took her on her first camping trip she would not come when called which was unusual. Instead she sat under a tree and stared at us. I pretended that we were going to leave to see what she would do and she came running over to the car. Did she jump in like I thought? No, she stood directly in front of the car and stared at us over the top of the hood.We had to pick her up and put her in because she decided we should not go home yet. lol She had a pet chicken she slept with in the house. Nursed anything that came along. She grieved when we couldn't keep the chicken any longer. She would go up and down the slide with the kids at the park.

When we took her to visit her chicken the chicken saw her and came running over. They tried to get to each other and ran up and down the fence together looking for an opening. When I dressed her up one time I told her to go show my daughter who was in the other room. She went prancing down that hallway and half way down her hat fell off..she hung her hand, looked terribly sad, her stump quit wiggling and she brought her hat back to me. When I placed it back on her head she got all happy once again and went prancing down the hall to show my daughter. She was so sweet and cute. Thank you so much for your kind words you all. I live in an apartment so my doggie days are over for now. Mmm

Dobermans rule!!!! They are so intelligent, proud, powerful, devoted, loyal and oh so affectionate!! I have shared my home with 9 over the past 26 years & couldn't imagine not having one, whoops, can't have one I always need two or more. lol The last one I lost to Rainbow Bridge was my boy Snoop in 2003. I still miss him terribly even though I have his mate & two of their litter mates. I am sure Snoop & Ginger are having fun running the hills & fields at Rainbow Bridge. I have never gotten a Dobie & she/he has taken the place of the ones that I have lost!!!! Snoop was so smart, I would spell I-C-E and he would nose the freezer door, K-I-S-S and he'd give me a kiss, P-A-R-K and he would get excited and go tothe door, B-E-D and he would go to the stairs to go upstairs, he also knew how to spell candy & walk. As I sit here thinking of him I have tears in my eyes. You are right, people that have not shared their home with a Dobie doesn't know the love they are missing. I am so sorry for your loss of your beautiful friend. I have a mutt named Ginger.

I am so sorry for your loss, it must be very hard to lose a friend. I've been starting to say this a lot now, but it amazes me how so many people on this site are so rude and inconsiderate. Any way, I personally don't like doberman's. The only reason I can think of is that when I was little we had a neighbor who had 2 of them and they were very mean. My sister's and I were scared to death of them. When my mother would go visit that neighbor we refused to go.
I do have and Aunt who had 2 doberman's. They were very good sweet dogs. Her story was sad to. They werer getting old. Just last year one died, then the other died a couple months later. She now has 2 dobie puppies and loves them both.
Dobie's are good size dogs, but I perfer large dogs. My favorite is the Great Dane. I hope to have one some day. I currently have a puppy which someone dumped on my road. I believe he might at least be a Great Dane mix.
Well anyway I hope you find the comfort you need in our Lord. I really don't have anything to say to help, but I will send up a prayer for you.

Dobies *are* the best! Sweet, smart, funny - the whole package! I had a red dobie that would shake, then you say "other" and she'd give you the other paw. Sometimes, I'd keep repeating it just to see how long it took her to catch on that I was messing with her (10 minutes was her limit).
You are truly fortunate to have had such a great friend!

I've never had a Doberman myself, but my best friend growing up had one for a long time. Her name was Basha. She was the only dog I wasn't afraid of growing up (I'm not afraid of any dogs anymore...lol). Anyway, I remember we used to feed her peanut butter. She loved it, but it also stuck to the roof of her mouth. Every time I went over there, she would always come to me so I can pet her. One of the most gentle dogs I've ever seen. I can remember when she died. My friend was over at my house and we were swimming. After we got out and went inside, her mom was there to tell her that Basha is now in heaven. It was my birthday that day. I will never forget her and she wasn't even my own dog.
I also wanted to add that I had two cats growing up that both died when I was a teenager. I was so heart broken both times and I still dream of them sometimes. I sure do miss them a lot. Pets really do become part of your family and when they die, a piece of your heart dies with them.
