"*Grab the tick by the head or mouth parts right where they enter the skin. Do not grasp the tick by the body.
*Without jerking, pull firmly and steadily directly outward. Do not twist the tick as you are pulling.
*Using methods such as applying petroleum jelly, a hot match, or alcohol will NOT cause the tick to 'back out.' In fact, these irritants may cause the tick to deposit more disease-carrying saliva in the wound.
*After removing the tick, place it in a jar of alcohol to kill it. Ticks are NOT killed by flushing them down the toilet.
*Clean the bite wound with a disinfectant. If you want to, apply a small amount of a triple antibiotic ointment. "
You may also want to use a tick control product, such as Frontline to prevent infestation. "Approved for use on pregnant or nursing mothers (approved for Frontline Plus and Top Spot® only)" - the spray has not been approved.

If you can reach them, try this. Take a q-tip and sopak it in methalated spirikts, then drop some onto the tick's head. Don't attempt to pull it out since that mostly leaves the head behind and can get infected.

i always just pull my dogs ticks out -
grip as close to the dogs skin as possible - and yank one time real fast - it always gets the head out -then smash or drown them in a cup of water n flush down the drain- they say you can put clear polish on them and they will back out but mine never do - so i have resorted to pulling them -
however you decide to remove them make sure she is outside not near the puppies so that the ticks do no go to another dog if you were to drop one

I've always used Vasoline for ticks. Just spread it over them and they have to get out to breathe.
