If you have a dog what is its name? I have a 9 year old golden Lab called Frodo and in a few weeks am getting a black Lab puppy, going to call it Amelie.I'd just be interested to know what other people call their dogs and if theres a story behind the name?

Euan S- Yup thats it,I'm a huge LOTR fan, was brought up on the Trilogy and I thought Frodo was a suitable doggy name! Amelie also came from the film yeah, I guess films are my theme! :)

Hi! I have a rescue centre so I've always got a lot of animals coming and going, therefore I find it helpful to have themes when naming animals and I've taken that over to my own pets too. My dogs are always named after plants - until November I had a Bracken and a Tansy, then Tansy had pups who we called Hazel, Douglas (Fir) and then the break to my rules ... Dougal, but even he is really named after a plant, the tallest tree in Britain is called Dughall Mor or Big Dougal - anyway thats how I keep up with naming loads of pets!!! Amelie is a lovely name btw. Just incase you were wondering; rabbits are usually named after pop stars, rats have "normal human" names (Brian and Andrew were the last in,) mice are named after sports players, hamsters current events - we still have Katrina who came in the day New Orleans was hit by the hurricane, ferrets are cartoon charecters, caged birds are named after charecters from TV comedies and I get my little sister to come up with names for the chickens - so far we have Charlie, Rebbecca, Ollie and Crazy - no theme at all there! Cats on the other hand seem to end up with what ever name suits them!
Hope I haven't bored you to death!!!
x

My family dog is a miniature schnauzer called Ruaidhri (pronounced Roory). The name was suggested by one of my aunties and my mum liked it so thats what hes called, not really a great story but thats what happened. The spelling is Gaelic, i think, as is my name again there isnt really a story for this except we are Scottish, I guess thats a good enough reason.

Is there a story to go with the names of your dog and soon to be dog? "Frodo" as in Baggins and Amelie as in the film with Audry Tautou?

Dizzy Disraeli, the Airedale Named after Queen Victoria's PM because the Airedale had curly black hair and a beard.

Trollie, wirehair fox terrier- Named after a stuffed animal(wire fox terrier) my mom had during WWII in Germany.

Max Der Windtbeutel, wirehair fox terrier
Windtbeutel means windbag-which is a type of doughnut from Germany When Max was a puppy he pulled an entire plate of doughnuts off of the counter and ran around the house throwing them in the air.

We have 2 dogs. Our female is 7 years old, and she is a Rottweiller/ Black Lab mix. We got her at 6 weeks and she was the runt. The grunts she made sounded like a baby pig, so she was named Pig.
Our male is 3/4 Husky and 1/4 wolf. He was a year old and already named when we got him. His name is Roscoe.

My dogs are named Suede and Tweed. I'm an interior designer and thought it would be fun to go with a fabric theme...my siamese cat was named Cashmere. Suede is in the picture by my name.

How did you come up with Frodo? It's cute!

I have a Golden Lab called Luna.
It means moon in spanish and she has this name because we (me and my boyfriend) found her in a park when we were taking a walk in the moonlight, someone had dumped her there and she was only a few weeks old. Thankfully, weve had her for nearly 2 years now and she fit as a fiddle!!

I used to have 2 dogs called eric and ernie (ie morcombe and wise) ernie was a jack russell and eric was a boxer so ernie had short fat hairy legs (some people will get the joke)

We also had 2 cats called Frankie and Johnny. we did think frankie was a girl until he developed some rather large growths in between his leg. He is still the most beautiful lookign boy cat in the world
