Yes, but it will take work on your part.

Google Nothing In Life is Free for a start.

A really aggressive dog may not be allowed into a class situation. You can find a trainer through http://www.dogpro.org/

And I highly recommend Cesar Millan's book Cesar's Way and his videos and his show Dog Whisperer on Nat. Geo. He works with many dog aggressive dogs.

Make sure your dog is neutered and think of the word possessive rather than protective. He does not see you as a leader right now.

Chows are often dog aggressive and some poorly bred Labs can be quite aggressive also.

You might try to google for your local Chow Chow club and see if they have any tips for socializing your dog.

4 is not old and can be trained. Maybe not 100% but enough you can deal with him.

The Chow is a natural guard dog and they will get red with other dogs, In this the lab part is just along for the ride. You need a good trainer. They can be a scary hand full . If you look around you can get training through petco, and others that have training classes you can sign up for.

Best bet is obedience classes...the dog that you are describing seems to not be socialized with other dogs thus the reason for his aggression towards other dogs....obedience classes will help with that...chows do have a tendancy to be slightly aggressive but Labs don't so it seems like the Chow-Chow part of him is coming out....

Have you ever taken him to obedience classes? He may be a very obedient boy already, but the class settings usually have lots of other dogs in his age & size range which "kindly forces" him to be in that multiple-dog situation. Also, there are professionals there to help you & give you advice on how to handle him when other dogs are nearby. By going regularly with him, it may help him to get over being angy when other dogs are near you...practice makes perfect!

Hi, I had the same problem with my dog. I had to work fairly hard to train him. There is lots of good information on the internet to get help.

I recommend this eBook (electronic book) called Sit Stay Fetch and you can download it here: http://www.wideopenebooks.com/Recommends/SitStayFetch.html

Good luck with your dog!

John

An old dog is never too old to teach new tricks...not that a 4 year old is old but, well, you know the saying. LOL
