I have had my dog for his whole 5 years of life and most of the time, he has stayed inside with little exposure to other people or dogs. I would like to change that since he is very timid and withdrawn when confronted with new people or dogs. I have been taking him for the last 3 days to doggie day care but so far he has still shyed away from the workers when they come n near him. He is not scared or aggressive with the other dogs but he does'nt really interact with them either. Is it just a question of time to get used to them or he is just too old to socialize?

Do you think it will get along with my female Golden Retriever (1-1/2) and my older rescue guy (12-14?) Also, does anyone know of a puggles rescue group near Boston?

I currently have a VERY spoiled 11 month old and will be getting a new Yorkie baby soon. I am confident that, overall, my current "baby" will love her new sister, however, I think we will run into problems with some bones and possible ownerships of laps. I have always had more than one dog at a time, but not spoiled, indoor dogs. I don't work and am home all day, so I will be the "mama" and wonder the best way to deal with this. I am looking forward to training the new pup and watching them play. I'm just wondering with this kind of dog, how long does it usually take for the eldest to not be jealous? She may not even care, but I doubt that will be the case.

They fight with each other quiet a bit too. They get treated the same feed the same, but feed separately otherwise one dog doesn't get any.

She seems to be fine other than wanting to eat grass and then vomiting. She has been dry heaving, coughing, and belching in between playing. She just hasn't played as hard today as usual for her. I'm hoping she hasn't got a foxtail caught in her throat or something. Any suggestions?

I'm a single father... My daughter is 5yo. She has been wanting a small puppy. We live in an apt so I don't want a big dog. Somewhere in the area of 10-20lbs. Most important thing is I want a puppy great with kids.

I just adopted a 4 year old collie. She is smart as can be and is very quickly learning her basic obedience. The problem is when she plays she will run up a just pinch me in the a$$ with her front teeth when I least expect it. It isn't a mean or vicious bite, but it does hurt. It took her several days before she was comfortable enough to play. So I don't want to end the play sessions too quickly. Any ideas how to get her to stop.

Today i was sitting in a parked car and i saw something which really shocked me.

A truck was coming down road at same time a silver car from coming from the opposite end, neither was going to let the other pass. So they both attempted to pass , while cursing eachother out.

Immediately after they passed eachother, the man from the truck got out holding a chain ready to fight. The man from silver car quick opened his boot and to my amazement a pitbull jumped and was ready to attack.

Eventually they both backed from, but i was just shocked that someone would use their pet in that way?????

Has anyone else seen something like this????? and do you think that certain people should have their pets taken away from them????

I have a 1 year old boxer that I found about 5 months ago. He was VERY thin. I took him to the vet about a week later for shots. He has had all of his shots, but I didn't have him dewormed. He has grown and gained weight since then, but you can still see his bones. He eats and drinks normal. His personality and activeness have not changed. Although, after eating and drinking he vomits. At night when we go to bed, he sleeps in my room and I can hear his stomach making really weird noises. I have checked his poop, but found nothing.

he is a very large dog, a great pyr, and a very sweet dog that wouldn't hurt anyone but lately he started growling when he has his outside bones and his rawhides in this house. if i scold him sayin no, he gets louder and snarls at me. i can tell him to leave it and he will listen, drop it and get up but as soon as he goes back to it when i give him the release comand or if i touch him while he's chewing on it he growls again.
i'm afraid he might hurt someone when i'm not watching him closely. he just recently turned 3 and i'm at a total loss with what to do, any other time he is the most gentle dog. i just feel very limited because of his size, he is about 140 lbs and when he snarls i well... uh.. get a lil scared and he is never like this otherwise.
he has never bit me and i can take the bones from him even though he growls but i then count my fingers and don't want him to growl...any suggestions?

I have 3 dogs, all of whom need to go to new homes as I'm now separated and cannot give them the attention they all need. The older dog has been on her own before, and isn't the issue of this question. The 2 younger dogs (both aged 4 years) have lived together since they were pups; though not littermates. They even sleep together in the same kennel. I've found an interested owner for one of them who can provide a fantastic life for him, but cannot take both dogs. I feel very guilty about separating them, but at the same time I can't provide the exercise and loving socialized environment they need. They end up kenneled much of the time, which clearly isn't fair. Should I go ahead with the new home for one dog which will separate lifelong companions or keep looking for a home that can keep them both? It'll be easier to find a good home for the second dog as well on her own rather than finding someone who will keep both. What do you think?

I just want to comment on the dog food question. I have been feeding my boys Science Diet since they were pups and when we go to our annual check up they ask me what I feed them and the vet office said that it is one of the top 3 that they prefer. Now I am wondering since a lot of members don't think highly of it and suggest other products, why do vets recommend it when it really isnt the best. I want to make sure that my "kids" are healthy and are eating right. Comments? Concerns? Hallucinations are all appreciated. Just a concerned pet parent.
