Hello all. I have a puppy question . . . I work 8 hours a day, but have decided to get a puppy for companionship/eventual protection. I am picking him up in a few weeks, but I'm still undecided on what to do with him while I'm at work. Of course, I plan on coming home during my lunch hour to play with/exercise him, but I'm unsure what to do with him the rest of the time. I know lots of people swear by "crating" a puppy while their gone, but I'm not sure if this is the right way to go. Others suggest setting up a puppy pen in a blocked-off kitchen or bathroom with toys, bedding, etc., but then there is a choking hazard for the puppy if it relieves itself on and then chews the bedding. I cannot afford puppy day-care at this point, which is the other option I have heard. I really want to make the best choice for my puppy . . . please help!!! P.S. He's a german shepherd.

My neighbor lets his dog crap all over his yard, all down the sides of his house and all over the front yard and backyard. He never cleans it up, it's disqusting. I can't even look out my window and enjoy the view because of all the brown piles all over the grass. Its been this way for about 6 months now.
What can I do about this? We never talk to each other, we dont dislike each other , we just are private people. When people walk dogs in our neighborhood they carry a bag and clean up their dog's crap right after it goes. So why should my neighbor be allowed to let his dog crap all over his lawn where I gotta look at everytime I look at it? How do I tell himm without getting punched out or worse?

My dog was very sick and left a mess in the carpet. I managed to get most of it up but some of it has dried into the carpet fibers. I have a great product for getting out the odor and residual stain but some of the feces dried into the fibers and I can't get it up before cleaning. Any suggestions on getting the dried feces out of the fibers so that I can use the carpet cleaner?

I have 2 dogs and want to know if it's OK to crate one dog but not the other? I'm assuming not but thought I would ask. I have a nightmare puggle and need help! We adopted her from a family that we know didn't abuse her. She was 6 months old at the time- now about 14 months. She is scared of everyone, but getting better SLOWLY. She ruined our couch a few months ago when we were at work. After a ton of bitter apple she stopped for a couple weeks. We were then gifted a cheap leather couch for a replacement, which she promptly destroyed. My solution was to put a kennel right in front of the dog door so when they enter the house they enter directly into a kennel. We're in AZ so it's too hot to leave them outside all day. Now she is doing her best to destroy my back yard. We have tried petsmart training, toys, etc. The only option left I can see is a crate, but I don't want to have to start crating my 4yr old springer now. Shouldn't these puppy problems end soon? Any suggestions?

I trained my dog to fetch and when I could tell he was getting sick of the game I gave him the command take it and sing go hunter its your birthday have a party,he's a good dog!
he runs around like crazy and growls/sings along with me with the toy in his mouth. English Springer Spaniels often are vocal and sing when they are playing-- And yes I know I shouldn't admit this in publicLOL

Why do dogs like to place their toys on you when they are chewing on them? Mine loves to place it against my leg or in my lap! I find it really cute.

i have noticed that HEAPS of people here seems to not recognize the fact that a dog is infact a dog. its ok if it stays outside and its ok if you arent home all day. they are animals and as such, theres no baby talk involved nor dressing them up. i have 2 dogs and me and hubby are both at work all day until 5.30pm. they are always inside when we are home but sometimes we just put them out to kinda "get rid of them" :)

wot do u think its appropriate with your dog?

I have a Bullmastiff dog, who is 10 months old and has started to chew up everything. I came home tonight and he has eaten the molding around our doors. Any ideas on how to train him to not be such a pain in the butt? I love him so much I don't even want to think about getting rid of him, but I need help!

I have a six year old terrier who is (sorry, WAS) perfectly house trained until about 3 months ago. He started getting into a habit of peeing. First he peed ON ME! I interpreted it as jealousy, since I had gotten a new puppy about 3 months prior to the incident. He peed on me yet again when I took away his bone for being mean. Lately, when I have visitors he runs around and pees all over the place! It's like he's marking his territory. However, he always makes sure to either pee on one of my possessions (like my shoes!) or on me. Is he doing this out of spite? Jealousy? How do I make him stop?

I went to buy a Kong for my dog as they are cheaper there. While choosing, I heard whining and yelping and went to investigate. A sterile room was filled with small wire cages containing nothing but a small towel and a water bowl, with barred wire floors - oh, and numerous puppies and kittens, of course. No toys. There was a largish lab puppy alone in one cage. In another were huddled eight tiny Maltese/poodle crosses, six weeks old (they looked younger) at $440 each. In another was a little Staffy, very lively and friendly, but pressed against him (for warmth I would say) was a tiny creature labelled Maltese/Shih Tzu, with matted hair, shivering and looking very poorly. And so on. I was on the verge of tears, it was so heartbreaking.

I would have said something to one of the assistants, but they both looked about 16 years old.
