My dog was very sick and left a mess in the carpet. I managed to get most of it up but some of it has dried into the carpet fibers. I have a great product for getting out the odor and residual stain but some of the feces dried into the fibers and I can't get it up before cleaning. Any suggestions on getting the dried feces out of the fibers so that I can use the carpet cleaner?

Drop by your local pet supply store (like PetSmart) and pick up a bottle of "Get Serious." The stuff is wonderful. It will clean the area and remove any pheromones left in the carpet. Be sure to follow the directions on the bottle. Also, it can be heated in your microwave to get out tough stains.

I have 8 cats and 5 dogs and this is the product I use at home. Whatever you do, don't use regular cleaners like Pin-Sol. The amonia smell draws the animal back to the spot.

Depending on how big your house is, it can take about half a day to steam clean wall to wall carpeting. Most companies will be able to work around furniture, but obviously it's better if you can move as much furniture as possible so that the cleaners can clean as much carpet as possible. You'll want to open up your windows after the carpet cleaning has been done to air out your rooms (and with this heat, to quicken up the drying time). If you are talking about cleaning hand made rugs, then cleaning is done off site and you generally have to wait 2-3 weeks for the professional cleaners to return your carpet.

You need to saturate it with any kind of spot cleaner or even water until it becomes soft and then it can be removed.

After cleaning it is good to mist the carpet with a solution of white vinegar and water to neutralize and uriatic acid so that the dog can't come back to the same spot.

If your going to steam clean it why not just let the steam cleaner get it out that's what they do get inbedded stuff out of fibers from carpet. It' ok to presoak it.

Try putting a damp sponge or paper towel on it for a 20 minutes or so. Use warm water, not hot, so you don't set the stain.

Good luck!
