She needs to have an ultrasound done at 55 days gestation. this tells the size of the puppies, and whether they can pass through the birth canal.
However, Once she begins pushing (hard labor) she is in trouble if it takes more than 2 1/2 hours before the first puppy..At 2 hours, call the vet and tell her/him that you are on the way.. At least 1/2 of all pugs, if bred to another pug, require a C-section, so be prepared...Emergency C-section will cost as much as $2,000. ..I hope you don't lose your pug. They are not for amature breeding.

It's always better to get the xray done at 55 days. It's a great indication on how things will go. It will also tell you how many babies to expect. If she has a normal birth it's always good to know when she should be done. If the vet says 5 and only 4 come you know there's a problem. Of course sometimes one will hide and won;t show on the xray.

I believe Pugs often do need c-sections so it's best to pre arrange it if your vet thinks it will be needed.

If you would have taken your dog to the vet for a check up HE could have answered this question for you.

How young is this dog anyway? You should never breed them until they are at least 2 yrs old and never every heat. You run the risk of loosing the mother, pups or both.

Next time check with your vet BEFORE breeding your pet.

If she actively pushes for more than 90 minutes she will need to see a vet. She may be in labor for over 24 hours from start to last puppy. It shouldn't take more than 4-5 hours between puppies. Flat faced breeds do have more whelping problems than longer nosed breeds.

What on earth are you doing breeding a pug when you obviously don't know what your doing? Pugs generally have C-sections and a good portion of pugs are not good mothers. Your endangering the life of your pug and also the babies.

Another backyard breeder.

You need to go to a vet and get a professional opinion, because a c-section for a pug is alot chepaer if you schedule it, than if it is needed in an emergency situation.

Usually they will deliver in 2 hours from onset of labor, if not then she may need a vet. I would call your local Emergency vet now to tell them what is happening and to be ready if need be.

first you need to know if it will be nessasary. you can have a ultra sound done to see how many puppies and how big they are. if she is not carrying to many and they are not overly large I would not stress and let nature take it's course. My Australian sheapard had twelve pups naturally, I'm sure she will be fine. if she does start having difficultys I then would go to a vet and make sure her vet knows she is in labor.
