we're a military family and have moved 5 times in three and a half years. my husbands parents have had our dog for a while, but will be soon making a trip up here this summer. so i can't wait to get her back. my dellema is, she's used to having another dog companion, and i would like to get a puppy anyways. so do i get one before she gets here, or wait until after she comes? she's very much the alpha female, and i don't want her to fel second best to anything...

I found him at a local shelter. I wanted a good companion dog and would like one who is not too high strung. Thought about a lab or retriever, but when we saw Sebastian, I fell half in love in the first minute. He has a sweet disposition, wanted lots of love, loves to be scratched. He was born with a birth defect on one of his front legs but does get around all right, they say. I know the leg is a limitation with activity a bit and he will need regular grooming. Went back to see him again and he put his head up to the gate to be scratched. Now more in love. Any thoughts on what future complications could be or the pros and cons of a collie?

my 5 year old setter is a house dog .Recently a female in heat has been coming to my yard, He is off his food but drinking lots. He is also tearing the ground with his paws and barking more. My main concern is his lack of food . he will eat some but we have to coax . is this normal and how long can it go on. I have spoken to a vet and she says not to worry as he seems to have lots of energy and his urine is normal.

I lost my beloved Lhasa Apso dog last year, and am really wanting to adopt a new Lhasa similiar to my baby who was a cream colored Lhasa mix dog. I do not want to go to a pet store, but you can rarely find Lhasas or even Lhasa mix dogs at the animal shelters where I live in Houston because the smaller dogs go so fast. So anyway,to make a long story short, I emailed a Lhasa/Shihtzu rescue group but the adoption fee they charge for a puppy up to 1 year old is like 450 dollars and when you bought the heartguard[for heartworms] like they suggested, and the frontline for flees, plus the dog food, the fee was well over 500 dollars! If their 2 to 4 years old, the fee is like 400 dollars,I think that's ridicolous. The petstores were asking the same prices. I know buying a dog from a petstore is unethical but at the same time if you get a dog from a so called "rescue group", and it's the exact same price how is that any different?

Well, potty training has been going great. But, now its raining. Will a puppy still go out to potty in the rain? I dont have a covered patio. I hate to have to use puppy pads as I think thats going backwards. What should I do?

made my pup an appt. to come back when she became 4 months old. I thought that was too early. They said between 4-6 months is quite alright. Do you think so?

I have a small white Terripoo (Terrier / Poodle mix), if he got your dog pregnant, would the puppies be cute or ugly? What would they look like?

Ok, so we finally rescued the poor little baby pug, he had bloody diarrhea and vomiting so we rushed him to the emergency vet that is open during the weekend. He had to stay Friday night - Monday morning - then we transferred him to a local vet for the rest of the day on Monday. They called us around 5pm and said he was ok to come home, no more vomit or diarrhea. So we get him home and he has to be separated from our older pug for about a week just to give him rest. The vet says our older pug is ok probably, since he's up to date on all shots. Do you think he is right? So far no symptoms shown in older pug. The younger one is doing VERY well. I thought PARVO was always deadly?? He is so cute and energetic and has quite the appetite! Vet has him on special diet and meds now for 2 weeks. So, anyone else had dogs with PARVO that lived/passed away and what were the signs of things going down/up-hill????

I have a huskie a little under a year old. She seems to have a very dry nose. And its covered with a dry mucus. Im not sure what it is. She seems to be coughing alot as well.. Could this be just a common cold and like humans works its way out? Or is this something more?

I had my dog on Nutro Natural Choice, but for like the last two or 3 weeks he wont touch it unless he's absolutely starving. Today I bought him Chicken Soup for the Puppy's Soul and he loves it, but is there even a point in mixing it when he just eats the Chicken Soup?

I dont people complaining calling them jails and such keep those opinions to yourself. We have a very large yard however are considering using a kennel this year and installing playground equiptment for the kids and maybe a swimming pool/hot tub. My question is how do you control the urine smell in the soil? My dogs stay inside during the winter and mostly outside during the summer {we live in ND so it doesnt get "hot" in the summer months trust me and on the rare occassion we have to run the AC we do bring the dogs in} that being said they have dog houses and shelter in their half of the yard but a kennel doesnt sound like such a bad idea. However a friend of mine keeps her dog in one she cleans the poo but the urine smell remains in the soil. Would it be possible to lay a thick tarp down ontop of the soil and cover it with sand? Or would their nails still puncture the tarp? Another friend of mine who has a dog that digs alot in their kennel put down chicken wire to stop the digging
