made my pup an appt. to come back when she became 4 months old. I thought that was too early. They said between 4-6 months is quite alright. Do you think so?

Months or weeks? 4 months is a very good age and as a matter of fact you should get it done before he/she is a year old because they can go into heat very young. Also boxers are prone to cancer and spaying reduces the risk of cancer so if you love your pup, get her spayed. The risk of cancer is even more reduced if you dont let her go through a first heat at all. GEt her spayed before her first heat.

I have a boxer that I purchased from a breeder...I was told between 6 and 12 months was the best time...Boxers need to fully develop before you spay or neuter...I think that it is too early but shelters have there policies and if that is there policy it won't harm your boxer at all..It will all be ok at 4 - 6 months...so don't worry...he/she will be just fine...I think it is wonderful that you rescued a dog from a shelter my first dog was a lab/pitbull mix from a shelter and he was my best friend!! good luck...

That is a perfectly normal age for a pup to get neutered. In fact, my vet says that even at three months it's safe to neuter. The earlier the better for so many different reasons. If you wait any longer, you could end up with some major behavioral problems on your hands and you don't want to deal with that. Good luck and congrats on the new pup!!

I don't agree with early spay neuter at all. In fact I opt for tubals and vacectomies close to the age of 1 1/2 - 2 yrs.

Dogs (like other living creatures) have hormones for many reasons (other than reproduction) they aid in growth and development in a lot of areas, skeletal, muscular, immunity etc. As reported above by happycamper so I'm not going to reiterate them here. But you should really research the topic thoroughly and come up with a decision that is right for you and your dog!

Most vets recommend between 4-6 months. I adopted a puppy from the humane society that was spayed at 6 weeks!

Yes,actually they can do it earlier but 4 months is right. They don't learn to spray or leave scent anywhere and they haven't had to go through a heat and become aggressive. They make you spay so as not to add to the population growth of unwanted pets...Its a good thing..

4-6 months old is perfect timing for spaying. You need to get her spayed before she goes into her first heat.

That's perfectly fine. That time range is a normal time for a puppy to get spayed/neutered.

It should be fine. They want to get her fixed before her first heat to prevent pregnacies and behaviour issues. If you are worried, do some research on the Internet and discuss it with the shelter counselors or with your vet. Perhaps they would compromise and allow you to do it at 6 months from your vet if you are worried.
