I got the dog 3 days ago and I took him to have his 1st set of shots yesterday. The vet said that he had a hernia and he needs to have surgery but besides that he was healthy. I really like the dog now but I don't know if I should take him back to the guy that I got him from or just pay for the surgery. Any shih tzu owner ever had this problem and is the hernia something that can come back after the procedure? Please help.

Our 8yr old rottweiler, sasha was put down last month. We also lost our 12 yr old rottweiler, bear back in november. I was at peace with his death because towards the end he had given up and was in pain, I felt better that he was in a better place now. But, Sasha was my baby. I also feel that she got cheated out of a few more years. I let myself cry the day I found out my mom had to put her down but since then I havent. I'd think about it and refuse to let myself cry and now when i think about her i think i refused the tears for so long that im afraid im going to have a mental breakdown if i start crying. I dont want this to happen cuz i dont know if i'll be able to pull myself together. I miss her soo much and I just dont know what to do anymore. I was looking at my phone the other day, i have pics of her on it and i thought "im going to go out to the living room and cuddle her" but then i remembered. This is just sooo hard, what can I do?

I have a 2 lb 2 oz, female, teacup chihuahua. What is a safe age to breed her. And should I let her go the studs' house or should the stud come to my house or what? How many puppies is she likely to have, any idea? Thanks

I am having a hard time finding a coat/sweater for my dog. She is a 110 boxer mastif mix who has a barrel chest that makes it very hard to find something that fits. I've tried a couple in xl and xxl and nothing fits around her chest or her collar to chest. Her measurements are neck 22, chest 38, collar to chest 14, length 28. Anyone know of any sites that cater to very large dog clothing, Mastiffs, Great Danes, Rotts, etc...

I'm thinking of getting an Irish setter for my next dog, in the past I've had an english springer spaniel & currently I have a dachshund. What can I expect from an Irish Setter. They are beautiful dogs w/ lots of energy - I know that so far.

i brought my dog in too see the vet 1 weeks ago for a comperhensive exam. The found his white blood cell count was low, they are going to do a test again in 6 weeks. I did not get to talk to a Dr., they were busy but the gal at the front desk did not seem that alarmed. the dog is seems to be completly healthy, what dose the low white blood cell count mean?

I washed it and put neosporin on it. Its welped up in this perfect little shape of the puppy's mouth on his arm. And again on his hand teeth marks are scraped across it. I threw the puppy outside, not going to chance that happening again. There are only a couple of places where a tooth poked through and made him bleed. How do I keep it from getting infected?

How often should I be bathing my 2 dogs. One is a Shih tzu and the other is a Maltese. They both have hair and not fur. I know if you bathe them too much their skin can get dry and I hear that the same thing happens if you do not bathe them enough. How often should they be bathed? THANKS! :-)

My 14 year old Chi has chewed all the hair off of her back and tail from the middle of her back, down to the middle of her tail.
Andthat area is red and inflamed...I've been told thta it could be she is allergic to red dye but we put her on a diff diet that contains no red dye and her treats have no red dye now,but it doesn't seem to have made a difference.....She has chewed her skin till now where there are these little bloody places n her back.. she stays at my dad and stepmom's house(i live with my mom) and my stepmom works from 11pm-6 or 7 am and my dad and his friends are constantly coming and going.. I thought it could be from everyone that runs in and out of the house...but I don't know...there is also a cat that has lived there for the past 10 years in the house...what could be wrong with my chihuahua??please help!! she has been like this for about 6 months now....but my stepmom won't take her to the vet....

I have a dog walker who comes every day and walks him for about 30 minutes. I had another dog with him for about a month but he kept attacking her, and they actually got stuck (she was a smaller dog). I got rid of her because my parents (whom I don't live with) didn't want me to have two dogs. Should I get another one and not let them deter me? Not sure if this will save in dogwalking fees (10 dollars per day, 5 days a week). I work 9-5 and am gone from 8-6 M-F.

I am having a rough time with allergies (they think) with my red nose pit. Does anybody have any good websites or books about pit bulls and their allergies. My poor little one is on and off medication due to her allergies.
NO NEGATIVE ADVISE! I am avid lover of the breed and I just want to read up on what they are prone to be allergic too. Thank You!

I really want a pet. im 15 and finish school early this year as it is my final year. I FULLY understand why they do not want to get a dog - they do cost money and are a tie (ie going on holiday, walking it etc) but my argument is that when I finish school I will be spending a lot of time at home to help look after it and even when I start college I may only have lessons in the morning so i can get home and take it out. I live in a medium-built up area with parks within 5 mins walking distance. I would like a dog that could come inside and i only have to convince my dad - everybody else is on board - i now know he likes border collies...how can I use this to my advantage?

I just brought her home last night and it was a rough night. She whined while in the crate but I found that if I covered it completely she fell asleep easially. Now that I have her out of her crate shes still whining constantly unless I'm playing with her. Do I have to play with her all the time unless shes sleeping or should I let her whine and find ways to entertain her self for short periods of time? She has lots of toys but it she seems to care less about them unless I'm playing with her with them. Will this pass? Also she hasn't eaten much or drank ANY water since I've brought her home and its been over 12 hours. She's 7 weeks old if that helps. Any suggestions would be helpful.
