Definately use a shampoo for dogs, not one of humans. A dog s skin is much more sensitive than a human s scalp is, so using human shampoo can cause irritation; not what you want to do for a dog who already has dry skin. What you should do is go to your local pet store and pick up a dog shampoo formulated for mositure, (if her skin is really dry, pick up a conditioner as well) and give her a nice lukewarm bath. Hot water will only make her skin drier. And make sure she s nice and dry before she goes back out into the cold.

Dobes have alot of dry skin problems.
If you are not now giving a suppliment I would start. They make sevarl types of oil that you can add to the dog food to help with coat and skin issues. You just put a squirt on top of the dog food.
Sometimes if they are lacking zinc in the diet they can have problems but most commercial dogs food have enough in them.
Sometimes the oil added will help and sometimes not.
I try not to bath mine unless they really need it. I use a thing like a baby wipe for in between baths. I usually only bathe them about 3 times per year unless they are going out for theray work and then they have to have one before going to the hospital.
I use a dog shampoo that has some tea tree oil in it and moisturizes. But any will work. The best thing is not to bathe to often as it will remove the natural oil from the coat.
Good luck.

There are many shampoos for canines available in various catalogs. Personally I recommend the Jeffer's catalog. You can get on their mailing list thus: www.jefferspet.com or 1-800-533-3377. The origin of the dog's dry skin is most likely to be internal & I would recommend adding a Tbsp of Flax seed oil to your dobie's food @ each feeding. This will probably cure the problem without the need for the shampoo.

Do not use shampoo made for humans; our hair and skin is different and our shampoos could make your dog's problem worse. Pet stores sell special shampoos designed for animal skin. I would recommend an oatmeal-based one and oatmeal is soothing and not likely to cause allergies. If special shampoos do not work, you need to see a vet to rule out allergies or chronic skin disease. My vet also advised I give vitamin E to my cat to prevent dandruff. Again, your vet can tell you how much to give, based on the dog's weight and medical history.

Well i live in florida and my Dobe who is the same age isnt really used to the cold weather and when it gets below 65, he starts to flake! he looks like hes snowing. but what a groomer told me to do, is take OLIVE OIL not any other oil bc it clogs up their pores and can cause problems. and rub it all in her skin, and get under the hair. let it sit for 10 minutes.
Then bathe her with a good dog shampoo made for dry skin, and get all the oil out. then after she is dry take a good lotion and rub it into her skin. But keep the lotion away from her face! but use a sesitive loion, like baby or hypo-allergenic. hope this helps!! Oh, and you made an awsome choice on a dog ;] Dobes rule!!!!!!!!!!!

I use Oatmeal Shampoo on my DoberKids. It helps with any itching and is especially soothing if the problem you're facing is allergy related. The product I use, as well as indications for its use, can be found in the link I provided below.

I wipe my dobies down with baby wipes in between baths this helps remove loose hair and flakes. my breeder also suggests giving fish oil omega 3 & 6. I had a professional dog trainer tell me to use pantene shampoo and conditioner. I have not had any problems using the pantene on either of my dobies. good luck!
