It is not advisable. Pups should be with mom for 10-12 weeks. She teaches them many dogy things.

NO, at 5/6 weeks old a puppy still has to learn to be a dog from its mother and litter mates. No puppy is ready to leave its mother before then. Plus mother is still weaning the puppies, they can start eating mashed, soaked puppy food at this age. Leave your puppy at home until its 8 to 9 weeks old for the puppy's sake. And if the owners of the mother is an irresponsible idiot and wants the pups gone too early try and convince them otherwise. Or offer to get your puppy its shots while its still with mom, better safe than sorry.

Short answer: No
Long answer: Weaning takes 5-6 weeks naturally. Since the puppy is at 5 weeks now, you really do need to wait. We do not allow our puppies to leave until they are 8-10 weeks old. By this time, natural weaning is complete and the puppies are able to adapt to being on their own.
I realize it is hard to wait for a puppy, but it is in the best interest of all parties involved to wait, most of all the puppy.
If you still question it, please use your local resources: your vet, Petsmart, Petco, books at your local library, etc. Any knowledgable breeder will tell you 8-12 weeks, also.
If you are getting the puppy, congratulations! If you are selling the puppy, please spay or neuter your dog as you obviously are not a breeder and dogs have many bad traits that are hereditary and can be avoided.
In any case, Good Luck! ;-)

Many dog trainers say it is best to leave the puppy with the mom and other pups for at least 10 to 12 weeks. This isn't because they can't live alone before that time (they can), but they learn very important social manners from each other. They learn not to bite too hard while playing. They learn how to interact with other dogs. They learn thier manners from each other. Taking puppies away from the litter too early causes all kinds of behavior problems that will have to be addressed and "trained out of them" later. Save yourself a headach and wait two more months.

Pups should stay with mom until at least 8 weeks of age. They may be eating on their own before then, but there are other reasons to stay together. Pups learn a great deal about being dogs between 5 and 8 weeks old; they can't learn this if they don't have a good role model. This is also the period when they start to learn how to control their bites. Every pup I have met that was removed from its litter and mom before 7 weeks had major behavior problems.

Unless the mother is not around or is not a proper mother to her puppies, they need to stay with their mother and littermates until 8 weeks old. A puppy needs to stay with them so they can learn important behaviors from their mother and littermates during this time. 5 weeks is too early. Irresponsible and unknowledgeable people let their puppies go this early.

Puppies should stay with their mothers until they are at least 8-10 weeks old. When they are able to eat solid foods they can leave their mother. Are you wanting to take a pup from it's mother this early or did the pup loose it's mother?

absolutley NOT
there are many reasons for this so I shall begin...
firstly mothers milk is a vital source of nutrients for all her offspring, it contains antibodies to many canine diseases that are fatal if caught.
Secondly, the most important part of a dogs life is the socialisation period and that happens at 6 weeks to 12 weeks, dogs that show mental health problems like separation anxiety, food guarding, barking problems will usually not be socialised correctly by the breeder.Dogs that go into rescues are unsocialised usually and will have some aggression problems many due to being takn away from mum far too young, any breeder that permits their pups to go at such a young age shoud be prosecuted for cruelty.

I got my doberman at 5 wks of age, but his mother had been hit by a car at 3 wks of age. I didn't have any health problems with him, but I would think any puppy would do better if able to stay with the mother longer.

NO..... Puppies need a lot of calcium in their early days to make strong bones. Taking the puppy away will reduce the amount of calcium and the dog will have problems later in life. Eight weeks is the usual time to keep the puppy with the mother.
