I know this breed needs a great deal of excercise, while both my husband and I work from early in the morning until 6-7 every day. I really wanted a dog that I can go to a training school with. And I want him or her to be very smart. But, then again, we cannot supply more then a short walk on week days to a bc lab mix. Should I think about adopting a differnet dog breed? Which breed is very smart yet more relaxed on the excercise it needs?

We just bought our gorgeous 6 mo. old german shorthaired pointer, Sadie, on Thursday. We bought her from a breeder, however her living conditions were pretty awful. She was caged outside with 3 other dogs her size, andno type of shelter from the cold wind, snow, and rain. We noticed on the ride home that her nose was dry, and she seemed a bit dehydrated. She couldn't get enough water, yet was reluctant to eat. She then began coughing around mid-afternoon on friday. I have heard it is ok to give a dog 2 teaspoons of robitussin DM before bed, and i want to get some added suggestions from ppl who have experienced similar roblems. I will be taking her to the vet, but money is tight this week, and i don't want to see her suffer until next week, when i can afford antibiotics or other perscrition meds from the vet. Please help!!

This is sort of a disgusting embarrasing question- but I believe it's important.
We found a stray (or lost dog) and it recently went, um, to the bathroom and it was NOT normal in color or consistency.
There have been NO other signs of illness-vomiting, crying in pain, etc.

He's feces was stiff and part was green. Ugh! And there was a yellowish/brown liquid.

I am just concerned if he is sick, and if it's contagious to other pets in the household or humans.

I've discovered that my female dog loves to pee under the dinning room table. She has since been trained to go outside but now the dinning area is embarassingly smelly. I've shampooed it about 5 times and i've tried the expensive pet store oder removers. What can I do to get the smell out short of tearing up the carpet and padding? Please help.

Is there a way to make it easier? She is a pit-lab mix, about 45 lbs, about 1 ft and a half to her shoulder. She really hates baths but how can I make it easier on the both of us? Should I go outside and use the hose, or get warm water and pour it on her from the bath tub (i mean, does it make a difference to her?) Also, is it ok to use garnier frucits on dogs?

Also shes really dirty because we took her to the lake and she rolled in the dirt too. So I might have to wash her more than once. Is it ok to use conditioner?

I have five friends and they all lost their old black labs recently (death by natural causes). They are looking to replace them and would like to take possession of them between the 46th to the 52nd day of their birth. They live in the mountains of northern New Mexico. Thank you for any positive responses.

my dog is a german shephard x akita. she is about 110 pounds. when she was about a year old she went through a phase where she would pick random fights for apparently no reason. she stopped for a while so i thought she grew out of it.recently it has started again.some people say if you pick her up by her cheeks right after and look her in the eye and say NO it will help.i have tried this and now as soon as she picks a single fight i just put her on her leash for the rest of the walk cause she hates her leash. what other techniques might work to help subside this bad and embarrasing behavior?

My ex husbands and his new wife just had babies. Today is one of my childrens birthdays so my ex and his wife are coming with the babies to the party. I have a puppy who is everything to me [besides my children. They come first] he always needs to be near me and one of the babies is affraid of dogs so the wife is making me take the dog somewhere else for the babies. I found someone to baby sit my dog but I am worried she will lose him. [he is very wild] Isn't it wrong that she is making the dog leave JUST for one of the babies?

We would like to add a Havanese to our family. My husband and I always had a dog. Our dog passed away 4 yrs ago before our daughter with the allergy. I have been told it is possible to have a dog with hair. I also was told that it does not matter if they are allergic to the dander or spit, hair or fur changes nothing, makes perfect sense. Has anyone experienced this situation. Our girls would like a dog in the family.
