This is sort of a disgusting embarrasing question- but I believe it's important.
We found a stray (or lost dog) and it recently went, um, to the bathroom and it was NOT normal in color or consistency.
There have been NO other signs of illness-vomiting, crying in pain, etc.

He's feces was stiff and part was green. Ugh! And there was a yellowish/brown liquid.

I am just concerned if he is sick, and if it's contagious to other pets in the household or humans.

No need to be embarrassed at all... doing Poop Watch is a very important way to assess the health of your dogs.

First and foremost, poop will naturally reflect whatever the dog has been eating. Dogs on really cheap kibble will have huge and fairly regular poops due to the fiber additives and bulk fillers in the foods. Dogs on high quality kibbles will have smaller, but still fairly regular poops due to highly digestible ingredients and less fillers. Dogs fed raw diet will average very little poop but it will be more variable based on exactly what they ate that day and how much bone (firmer poop) or organ (looser poop) they had to eat with their meat. I'm going to be a little more graphic and talk about human poop, but if you drink blue or purple Gatorade, you will have neon green poop due to whatever dyes they use. These are just examples of different kinds of typical poops. If your guy had weird poop pretty quickly after you brought him in, it really could just be a natural result of whatever he had been eating when he was on his own.

It's also certainly a possibility that he's got something that could be contagious, but that could be the case with or without funky poops. If you're used to seeing what you refer to as "normal color and consistency", my *guess* is that you're used to seeing the product of poop from kibble-fed dogs, which tends to be reliably consistent due to additives that they include specifically for that purpose. If that's what you feed, your stray's poop is liable to settle out once he's been on a steady diet for a while. A vet check is still a wise idea.

there is not any actual rhyme or reason as to why dogs consume feces. you are able to attempt meat tenderizer on your puppy's nutrition--it relatively is meant to make the feces "undesirable" even though it does not consistently artwork. the final thank you to renounce your puppy from eating feces is p.c.. up the feces extraordinary way.

I don't know. I could be because he was sick or it could be because of whatever he was eating before you found him. Call a vet or an animal hospital and ask.
