Please don't crop it's ears that's very cruel and unneccessary. Cropping of ears is usually done for dogs that are going to illegally be fought. It is not part of the breed standard for german shephards anyway. I personally think that all cropping and amputations of dogs should be illegal. Maybe you should have your ears cropped first.

German Shepherds don't get their ears cropped, and dogs ears (in other breeds that do get cropped) should be cropped by 12 weeks of age at the latest 16 so maybe you should reconsider.
If your having a problem getting them to stand up there are other ways to try and achieve that. One would be rubbing them often another would be taping them. I'll see if I can add some sites if I can find any with info on helping them stand.

I hope your ready to get a bunch of hateful answers! A lot of people here thinks it's cruel and inhumane. I have a dobie puppy, I'm still posting her ears and she seems just fine. She's not traumatized. Anyways, to answer your question - Not all vets crop ears. You'll have to call around in your area. There's no way anyone here can tell ya. When you find one make sure you know what type of crop you want, bring a picture with you so there is no confusion. What the vet does might not be what you had in mind. It'll probably run you about $300. You'll have to do the dressing changes and postings at home so I hope you're a good nurse and have someone that can help ya! Good Luck!

Normally, German Shepherds don't need their ears cropped. They stand up on their own as they grow older. Ear cropping is awful. My husband and I had a Great Dane and a Bouvier that we had cropped and it was very painful for the dogs and painful for us to have to care for them. I would not have a dogs ears cropped ever again.

Shepherds do not have cropped ears! Their ears usually stand on their own. You might have to tape them to give them a little support, but do not get them cropped.

I am a doberman owner also, and I am pro crop with dogs that are normally cropped, but a German Shepherd is not one of them.

GSD's have lots of the main versatile expresstions. many human beings think of which you would be able to tell what a dogs is questioning via the way their ears are. incredibly the ears will pay interest to allot of diverse element in the enviroment. this might allert the owner to ability threats, at cases, however the over all dogs must be considered for any habit themes, like aggression. the ears on my own won't be able to enable you already know if a dogs is being aggressive or fearfull. additionally many look after workers think of that each and every dogs that comes into the look after worried has been abused this might or is probably no longer the actuality, subordinate canines will continuously act like they have been abused in a look after challenge. it relatively is simular to a loss of self-worth in human beings. (shy human beings) the only actual thank you to confirm if a dogs have been abused is for somebody to have seen the abuse and reported it and then a court docket of regulation might confirm the actuality, however abuse does ensue extra beneficial than we would ever understand. for many canines the actuality that they have got endded up in a look after is extra overlook than actual abuse. they do basically no longer understand the thank you to act around human beings, and are worried. loss of socialization. thank you for helping our troops distant places.

Why would you do that? Wouldn't a shepard look odd with cropped ears? I don't beleive in chopping off a dogs ears, or tail. It is almost as wrong as circumcision on humans!
And no I am not an animal rights activist, I hunt, fish etc...I love meat ant I wear leather, I just don't see the point in it.

But if you are going to do it anyway you have to go to a vet, it is illegal in most places in the US to do it yourself.
