I would say your puppy is fine. A pencil is wood and carbon graphite. The small amount of carbon shouldn't be a problem - but give him lots of water and some milk. It's like eating a tiny bit of charcoal - not exactly great, but won't cause major harm. Dogs chew on wood all the time, so that's not an issue either (after all, they play fetch with sticks!). The only concern is if she swallowed a piece that wasn't chewed well. This could get stuck in her throat or puncture her insides at some point. Watch for her pawing at her throat/mouth. If she's doing that, then the pencil is stuck there - rush her to the vet hospital!
But if she seems fine, then relax. If you are still worried, just watch for signs of lethargy or if she refuses to eat. In that case get her to the vet ASAP. But I think a larger pup with a small pencil will be fine.
Try to "puppy proof" your home more. It's tough - my two pups just started chewing on a pen I had - but it has to be done.

well assuming you puppy chewed the pencil up you should be ok pencils dont contain lead anymore so that is good . as for it passing well if it isnt long and pointed it should be fine.
only go to the vets if you saw the puppy eat it and not really chew it up well .
you should check the stool for the next few days to see if this has passed.
if your not sure about the condition of the pencil when she ate it then you should talk to the vet at least . an xray will show the conditoin of the pencil and if it will pass. an xray on a weekday is about 100 bucks along with the vist.

Dear Madame,
I'm usually rude and obnoxious to people, but I have a soft spot for dogs, so I'll offer true advice.
I would take the dog to the vet, especially if it's a puppy. While dogs have habit of chewing things up, I would say that he'll probably be fine, but internal splinters aren't very pleasant, and could cause pain. At the very least, please call an emergency vet and get advice over the phone. They'll probably be more helpful than us.
Hope things work out,
Pianoguy

WOW you really do need to make more calls. Keep calling. I wouldnt stop calling until someone answers. I know our vet has an answering service and a answering machine. So I would leave messages. And keep leaving messages. (then again I have mines personal Number just in case something happens and he knows when I had puppies coming). As for the Dachshund in labor, rub her back... make her comfortable. (The emergency vet shouldnt be closed even if it is easter that is why they are called emergency vets, there is always someone on call). KEEP CALLING

Dont worry about it. Dogs eat sticks all the time. Especially labs.
They dont use lead anymore in pencils its carbon now that wont poisin your dog. Dont let it become a habit. Your dog thinks the pencils are just small yummy sticks.
I love the panic everyone else is having. Ive bred and trained labradors for years. I have 5 right now. I have yet to see 1 that didnt chew and eat sticks. And arent pencils make from wood.

There is a danger of bowel perforation if the pencil stabs his intestine(this is the worst case scenario). He could also end up having a bowel obstruction that would require surgery. If you can afford it/have pet insurance I would suggest you take him. They can at least do an x-ray to see where the pencil is to determine if it can pass safely of if they need to remove it before a bad situation gets worse. Good luck!

YES get to an emergency vet clinic ASAP. A long sharp object can cause any number of problems and possibly even be fatal. She will have trouble passing such an object and it will likely have to be removed by surgery.
Don't waste any time.

Yeah, take him to the vet. The pencil splinters could tear his throat and stomach and cause really serious damage.
