I took him to the vet already. Vet suggested food allergy, wanted to put him on medication and food at $2.50 a pound. We can't afford all that. Here's the thing. I've been doing some research, and I think he's bored/having separation anxiety/depressed. I want to teach him to play, but he's very skittish (he's a shelter dog w/o a history) and he's too rough, he paws at me and scratches me up with his claws. He scares my 2 year old daughter. How do I teach him to play gently. He won't touch a toy or put his mouth on anything other than himself or a bone. What kinds of games can I play with him? He's big 85 pounds... we got him for my hubby, but he works all the time so I want to be able to play with him, but all I know is fetch.

we're thinking of getting a dog and we have a small yard so it can't be a large dog. We had a cocker spaniel an he was great for the house and the kids. Prefer a smaller dog and not another spaniel

I am curious about this process, and if anyone can share experiences, good and bad. I am likely having a 10 week old Boxer pup shipped on an airplane. A few of my concerns are not picking the puppy up in its comfortable environment, and it just arriving terrified and traumatized. Could it effect the relationship with the dog? Is it silly for me to be concerned about these things? Any detail, warnings, reasons not to worry, etc, would be great.

He is docile, especially since we sold his brother. He is about 3 months old. He will go on the paper that we put out for him, but he doesn't seem too interested in using the great outdoors, especially since his brother departed.

I recently inherited a 7 yr old basset hound that smells so bad. I have heard it is their ears that cause the odor. What can you do to make this a little more bearable?

I raised a yorki-poo so, I know alot about them and their attitudes but, I know nothing about this dashound.

Like, what toys are best for him? How can I get him reacclimated to his potty training? What's the best food? How hard is he to train?

See...I'm lost.

Help, please!

like a dog or something, do you just throw it out or do you have to call someone to get it?

Think about it. I want your opinion and an explanation.

I ask because I think too much, and I don't think being able to sit on command or roll over takes all that much brains.

My yorkie is a lonely girl. She is 3 and she is not so small and not so big... But smaller then a toy size. Everday she just stares at us. If we move our head to the left she would do that if we move our head to the right she would do that... She has a boring life and I want it to be happy so I am thinking of getting a new dog so she can have a friend..
What dog do you think is recommended? She sleeps alot, Stares all day. We give her toys but instead she, well it seems like she always wants to stare at us. Then at night she plays with stuff toys. I dont get it why she doesnt want to play in the morning and afternoon but wants to play at night. So why does she do that? She does when we are asleep. She is so sweet and and she gets jeolous if you pay more attention to the other dog.But if I play with her she wont play because I guess she is more comfortable with a dog. She like our family more than anybody.

1. Puppy or dog? 2. Type dog

If so, what do they do?

Who benefits from the work your dog(s) do and in what way?

What breed/type of dogs do you use?

What is it about that breed/type that makes it particularly suitable for the job it does?

Are there any other breeds/types that could also be considered suitable for the job?

Anything else you can tell me on the subject?

*************************************************
I only ask because every dog I've ever owned has been a pet (and they've each done that "job" really well) - I'm not familiar with the "other side" of dog ownership, and I'm just interested.

he is about to be neutered but i'm wondering if there are any other causes. today for the first time in the 3 months i've had him he tried to start a fight with a submissive dog by grabbing its scruff. will neutering stop this? he has never done this before, i was told he was 2 years old but i'm now wondering if he is younger and his hormones are just kicking in..... any ideas?

We have owned a hundred dogs, seems like, because we have 2 to 4 at a time in the house. Every one was special, some in a bad way, but most were family members and greatly loved. I am calm and feel loved with my dogs. I sleep with them (they get a lot of baths) and I buy so many collars for them, etc. etc. A hateful aunt once told me I had more pictures of my animals than I did my kids, then stood there looking at me like I was worthless. She is gone now but I still remember how bad she made me feel about loving dogs so much. Did anyone ever make you feel guilty for loving dogs or other pets?

I know this is a gross topic, but I want to know. His first poo in the morning, is normal, and formed, and hard. However, we go to the park, and he runs like a maniac, then, his poos get softer, and softer, eventually just liquid. He doesn't have any parasites, or worms, or diarrhea. Like I mean when we get home, he's not desperate to go outside, and he doesn't have accidents inside. Is this normal?
