My partner and i just got a puppy, but we are finding it hard to housetrain the puppy, because when we put down poo pad for him, he just sleeps on it and when you take him outside to do a wiwi he doesn't do it outside the moment you bring him in on the pad he wouldn't do it but will the moment he steps into the lounge room.

and yet it is never anything to do with the dogs intelligence etc it is the owner who has no idea how to train the dog and thus creates the behaviour problems. I have seen countless questions on here where people say things like "My dog is bad because it barks" "My dog is mean because it attacks other dogs/cats" "My dog is stupid because he wont come when I call or do what I say"

All of those statements are practically idiotic, dogs arent bad, stupid or mean because of those reasons... they can develop unwanted behaviours because of lack of good training or no training at all, or improper training. Whatever way you look at it, in every case where someone states something similar to the above comments it is their own ignorance of dogs and training that causes these problems and it is not the dog. What do you think??

My pit bull is 5 months old. He was 8 weeks old when I first go him. He was very active for the first month, but after that, he doesn't like to do anything. He hardly plays now and all he does is sleep. Even when I call him, he takes his time to walk to me. He has had all his shots, his bowels are normal, and he eats regularly. What's going on with him?

My male dog as a urine problem. I was told that getting him fixed would help the problem. When he get over excited he urinates and he marks his territory in the house. Anyone know if getting him fixed will work?

OK, as I said in my last question, my 9 week old puppy has gas somethng terrible. I am fairly sure that it is a food related issue. I have another puppy, 14 weeks old, and two 3 year old Shih Tzus also. They are all eating the same food, which is Eukanuba Small Breed Puppy Formula. I have always feed Eukanuba to my dogs, and have never had a problem before. I understand that it has corn meal, which may be causing the problem.

I have done some research on picking out a better food. (My vet says Science Diet, but i know he earns money, every time he sells some.) It seems that every brand out there says that they are the best. Does anyone have any experience with a similar problem? Can you tell me what worked for you?

The other puppy is fine and the two adults are OK too.

I have a six month old Sheltie who we are planning on breeding. However, she has not gone into her first heat yet....is there something you can do to induce them into a heat? I know I need to wait until her 2nd heat to breed her, but would like the first heat to happen so we are that much closer.

We were at the dog park when we came across a lady with two Pits. At the same time 2 Rotties, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, a Black and Tan Coonhound and a couple mutts caught up with us also. Everything went very well, all the dogs were loose and getting along great (with a growl here and there of course). The two Pits were very friendly and not playing any more aggressively then the Coonhound pup who hadn't learned good manners yet (as her owner stated). Everyone went their separate ways and about an hour later my two were swimming in the river when the one Pit came flying out of the field and plowed into the water going after my Lab mix.

Those of you who know me know that I have nothing against Pits, but I'm wondering where this outburst came from....

My dogs did nothing to provoke her and she completely took them by surprise when she attacked.

Everyone is fine and the Pit gave up quickly and proceeded to swim herself, but I'm wondering what the heck that attack was all about??

This is why there are soooo many problems with dogs! Well, part of the reason.

I read so many things about 6 week old pit bull puppies taken from their mom and littermates, and this is a recipe for disaster!!!

When will people learn???????

What I mean is that, she is an anxious chewer, and I know her breed is known for destructive chewing, but how can that be deterred. She doesn't like her teething toys (and she is teething) and she seems to like chewing on wooden things (chairs, doorframes) and metal (iron rails, the stove). Also, she is very exploratory, she cannot be taken outside to go to the bathroom without a leash, or she runs off into the woods behind our house and refuses to come when called. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it something she will outgrow when she's older or is it a constant trait in a Shiba?
