We have cut back on giving her human food and banned her from the house but she still wont eat....please help me and Starla Jo (the dog).

The main reason a dog does not eat is **Too little exercise** If you walk, run and play with your dog she will work up an appetite. I would also like you to consider this,' your feeding her crap Walmart food is the equivalent of raising a child on McDonald's, not cool in my book. The difference for a dog that size would be 2-3 dollars at the end of the month.

Wal Mart brand dog food is horrible.
My suggestion is to try Purina ONE with Salmon. I have a very picky Cocker Spaniel and he LOVES the Purina. It's not super expensive, but the salmon oil is good for his sensitive skin. You might also try mixing in a small spoonful of cottage cheese with the dry food.

My recommendation is to feed twice a day (morning and evening). Mix the food, put it down for 15 minutes. If she does not eat, pick up the dish and throw the food away. NO TREATS or other food until the next feeding. Repeat until she eats. It won't take long and she will figure it out. Just be sure to wash her dish really well and keep her supplied with fresh cool water.

Edited to add:
Dogs are pack animals. The cruelest thing you can do is to separate her from her pack (family). It sounds like you are not all that interested in helping her. Where are you located? I'll take her, my dog would love to have a playmate.

Ol Roy is one of the lowest quality of foods there is... there is a reason it is so cheap. The extra 5-10 bucks is worth it for your dogs health. Have you dried boiling some chicken? Not only do dogs like the taste but it is very good for them. You dont want to season it or anything.. just bland foods. You can try plain white rice too. Have you tried mixing wet food with some dry? Wet food (although high in fat and can cause diarrhea) tastes very good to dogs. If you cant get the dog to eat and she begins to lose weight it might be time for a vet visit. If you cant afford that either, maybe you should get rid of her to someone who can feed her what she needs and who can take her to the vet

I have no clue here why you have banned her from house? And why her not eating the Ol roy seems to make you angry?

Did you recently get her? If so, what was she eating? Switching foods on a dog can cause real stomach distress and pain. Can you not afford even Purina or Pedigree. Ol Roy is known to cause gassy problems for a lot of dogs, cheaper food for sure.
Is your dog not worth spending a little more if helps.

Why would you get rid of a dog for not eating?? Come on now. This could indicate a real problem for her. Especially if was eating and now is not. Quit table scraps!! If just got her then many dogs go through a "settling in" period to adjust to a new home. Nervous and trying to learn the ins and outs of a new family. But if you have had awhile and just quit eating then please have her to vet. And consider a little better quality food.

I am on SSI and my pack of 6-8, in rescue, get at least Purina! Wish I could afford better and certainly would if could! perhaps she is constipated and uncomfortable to eat at this time??

Why are you going to get rid of this dog because she won't eat? There could be any number of reasons! Maybe she doesn't like the cheap rubbish you're giving her, and who can blame her? If you aren't willing to fork out for a dog, don't get one in the first place. Did you ever stop thinking about your petty money worries and consider she might be ill? She could have something badly wrong with her, which is the most likely cause of this, and needs to see a vet pronto! Or, wait, are you not going to pay for it? How exactly is banning her from the house going to persuade her to eat? If she's not eating because of anxiety, stress or pain, then banning her is just going to make her even less eager to eat. Take this poor animal to the vet and please listen to whatever they tell you.

For the dog's sake it would be best for you to give her to a humane society. If she is of sound tempermant she will find a home. It is obvious you don't care to spend any money on her and she deserves a home full of love and good quality decent food. Also you state she is banned from the house. You really should simply give her to someone else who WANTS a dog. Please, don't get any more animals at all - for their sake.

I know you don't want to buy it but does you dog like the more expensive food? If so, there is nothing wrong with you dog, you're just giving it crappy food. Don't be cheap and buy some Kibbles and Bits.

I think that Starla Jo should be seen by her vet to make sure that she is feeling okay. Good Luck.

dogs may not eat when she's not feeling well. trying changing her diet slightly, give her slight variation.
if the prob persists any longer, better bring her to a vet and check if anything is wrong.
