Im glad many people have answered with a rational mindset!, however a few answers (witters) are incorrect, pit bulls as a breed do not top the list, second THERE IS NO LIST!!! only local counties keep any records on dog bits wich 50% or more are incomplete or inaccurate (most dogs are not identified correctly , for any breed) third there is no business or group that comprises such data . The only thing that is compareable is a 20 year study comprised of VETS record that has toy breeds as the top people biters and bully breeds to be "less likely " as biters( most bites happen when a dog is petted. last but not least, Pit bulls have been bred TO NOT BITE HUMANS, do to pit fighting rules from when the sport was leagle. PLease take the time to READ and find out the "facts".

Generally all breeds that are lumped as pit bulls (as pit bull itself is not a breed) are great. However, I do like on a street where two blocks up it gets rather... uh, ghetto, and people there train their dogs to fight. From boston terriers to pits to rotties to terriers. I would not want to be around one of these dogs with a 10 foot pole.

Not the dogs fault, entirely the owners.

ANY dog with great owner, great. ANY dog with horrid owner, horrid.

If you're talking about Staffies, I love their little wrinkles and jowly jaws! FABULOUS family dogs - again, for GOOD owners.

I do and everyone that has met ours do too. There are no bad dogs just bad owners and ignorant people, Any dog can be turned vicious and trained to attack and fight, Unfortunately Pits are the breed being exploited at the minute, and if all the biased ignorant people get their way an d vanish them there will be another breed right behind them. The same people who train the pits to fight will find another breed and trust me there are at least 10 breeds I can think of that are strong and naturely aggressive.

in experienced hands they can be great dogs. much like any dog. i like a dog that is well mannered, trained and socialized and not spoiled and allowed to get their way all of the time. or a dog that has been neglected and tied up or put out all their life. those are the two reasons why most dogs are bad. i have seen more aggressive chihuahua's than a pit. most pits i have met are friendly and like people. although it's true a pit does stand the chance of causing more damage than a chihuahua, but what about chow's or sharpei's i have found them to have poor temperments in general, as opposed to a pit. it's the owner's not the dog. any parent can raise an ill behaved child, yet no one is banning them from becoming parents.

I have nothing against any breed of dog that is properly socialised and is not a threat to others - Humans/Dogs.
The problem with Pit Bulls is they are bred to fight until another dog is dead. Most dogs will fight until the other submits, not the pit bull. They are trained and conditioned to kill. It's a mentallity that is bred into the dog, like a Whippet is to running a Pit Bull is to fighting. When you have a dog that is going to stop and nothing until death - There is always going to be concern. When a Pit Bull fights a human it's usually fatal. Look at the facts, in America and England they are the number one dog to attack/kill humans. So, no I guess I don't like the idea of a Pit Bull - Why should I?

I love pits. to the people that thnk they should be exterminated, why not exterminate groups of people that harm others. you know the groups that are dangerous. the reason is its wrong. god created all living creatures .you need to accept them for what they are. the question was how many people like pitt bulls not should pitbulls be destroyed.

I like pit bulls that have been properly trained and treated well. The ones that scare me are the ones that have been left untrained, or have been mis-trained or mistreated. But IMHO, the breed really doesn't matter, does it? If any dog has been left untrained, or has been mis-trained or mistreated, it it potentially dangerous.

i like pit bulls. they can be hard to handle so you need to have a lot of patience if you own one. if you treat them right they are very good dogs.
