My pit bull is 5 months old. He was 8 weeks old when I first go him. He was very active for the first month, but after that, he doesn't like to do anything. He hardly plays now and all he does is sleep. Even when I call him, he takes his time to walk to me. He has had all his shots, his bowels are normal, and he eats regularly. What's going on with him?

He has been dewormed before.

Have you had his sight/hearing checked to be sure there isn't a loss that is interfering with how he behaves?

Five months seems a little young to be "so mellow" and calm.

I work with dogs, and a lot of them are pitbulls, and I have not seen a pitbull at 5 months who wasn't full of energy and ready to play at the drop of a hat.

Has he been wormed? Get another fecal done. If he's badly infested, this will make him lethargic, and you may not be aware he has any.

Other than that, start training him basic obedience commands with really good treats that peak his interest, to get him up and doing stuff.

Take him walking daily, short walks at first, and see how he reacts to that. Maybe he needs some more "bonding" activities with you.

Good luck. Email me through my website if I can be of any more help!

pit bulls are actually mellow dogs, even though everyone belives they are vicious fighting dogs and the media focuses dog attacks on them. pit bulls were not bred to have high energy levels like herding dogs and some dogs are just lazy so i wouldnt be worried, but if there is any behaivor that seems abnormal and a cause for concern i would take him to the vet.

Hmm. I work at a vet clinic and the veterinarian i work for just adopted a diabetic lab mix puppy. He was 4-5 months old when she adopted him (because his owners were going to put him down just for being diabetic). Well he was lazy, like you are explaining, he never ran, he rarely played, he was just VERY layed back. We thought that it was because he is diabetic, he just didn't have the energy. WELL, Now he is around 7 months, and he is completely stable with his diabetes, and doing great, and he is still just WAY layed back. I think it is just the personality of some puppies. But if you are concerned i would talk to your vet and ask what they think.

this is going to sound crazy but it depends on how bully he is the more bully the lazier they are the more terrier the more active this could be normal but just to be certain take him to the vet and have him checked out did you see the parents alot of people are changing their line around pits and bull dogs to create a larger dog that could be what happened

Our APBT hardly ever barks till somebody is outdoors. i've got considered pitbulls in the comparable subject because of the fact those around you even nevertheless who bark and wine and bark all day. They extra then likley are no longer getting the attetion they want. Pitbulls as i've got discovered are very people orientated canines and that they could develop into bored very truthfully without the right interplay subsequently inflicting them to bark for attetion

Maybe you should take him to the vets if you are really concerned, but in my opinion I think he is normal in the sence that animals are like humans and many of us are lazy, that just comes with life.

Get some bloodwork done on the dog. Also make sure the dog is dewormed.

I've been dealing with pitbulls for 30 years, and have NEVER seen a lazy one. What does your vet say?

I would have a vet look at him just to be sure. Most pups are full of endless energy - especially a pit.
