I know they are good with kids, and usually get along well with other pets. I also know they are not known to be good watch dogs, but will they at least bark when someone knocks on your door? Do they tend to howl when left alone? I hear they mostly like to sleep the day away. Any information would be great.

I have a mixed breed who we have spend thousands of $$$ on for yeast infections. She has got dry yet greasy, crusty, itchy elephant skin and a horrible odor. Medications did not work except for one antibiotic she was on but it came back once the medication was gone. She has lost half her hair and lost weight because her body is trying too hard to fight it.

Has anyone at all had a dog like this and have you found anything that works? I know the condition is chronic with her but if I can keep the yeast at bay with treatment, I think we will all be happier.

My 7 yr. old Ridgeback has been having skin issues that were linked to an underactive thyroid. This past September my apartment building burnt down and my two dogs were inside for over 3 1/2 hours. Thankfully the room that they were in had the doors closed and they were able to be rescued without any actual physical harm. For the first month or so, they didn't want me leaving, they would cry and bark and understandably so. They seem ok now, for the most part and they don't carry on like they used to but my vet is linking his skin condition to possible anxiety and wants me to put him on Prozac. I don't have a very good opinion of the drug because I was once on it and I had awful side effects. I understand that the way that my body and my dogs body work are obviously different, but does it really make sense to put him on an anti-anxiety/depression drug?

I have a small four-year old teacup chihuahua, ever since she was about a year old she became over protective and mean. I was always very nice to her and I have no idea why she does this. I have dealt with it for the past couple of years but I just can't stand it anymore. I now have two other dogs, one being her mate and the other her puppy, and she hardley wants to have anything to do with them. Most of the time when I come around her she growls and tries to bite me, she does the same to the other dogs. I now have to put her in her own room and leave her in there so she won't get upset. I feel bad for her but I don't know what I should do.
PLEASE HELP!

Ok so my fiancee just bought a 15 month old puppy from the shelter for us. He's a mix between an australian shepherd and a golden retriever. Cutest little guy you've ever seen but he's very shy. We've had him for 3 days and he's only eaten once and that time I had to put some dog food on the ground and my hand. He only seems interested in food when we are eating our own at the table but we refuse to give him table scraps. He cowers when you approach him and he whimpers alot. He still hasnt barked yet and seems to be afraid of loud noises and rustling sounds. I was also expecting him to be a a little more lively based on his age and breed but he hasn't been as of yet. Just likes to sleep alot and lie around the house. You can tell he has some playfulness in him but we're just not sure how to coax him out of his shell. So I would like some suggestions for 1) getting him to eat 2) curing his shyness 3) figuring out if he has any barks in him. Thanks guys.

We have an 18-week old puppy. We've been crate training her, but when she's out of her crate, she needs to go potty about every 1-2 hours. The other day, we left her in her crate for 3 and 1/2 hours, and we think she peed a little in there. Does she not have control of her bladder yet?

My Shih Tzu had puppies and I recently found out the father of the puppies' is inbred (brother/sister)...is this ok? What, if any, complications might there be? Does this mean they're not pure Shih Tzu? I've been told that this means they will be slow, deformed, etc. Please help!!!

I've already been through the whole backyard breader thing so don't bash me for breeding. This is her first litter and we are getting her fixed afterwards. SO...we bred her on the 7 8 9 of december. The vet thinks the 3rd week of febuary but I think 1st week of march. I know the gestation is 63 days so that means at least march 1st right?

I hope my spelling is right. The question I am hoping someone can answer for me is. How can you cure your dog from separation anxiety. I would like to not have my dog left in her kennel all the time. I know that is not bad to have them in a kennel but, I would like to be able to let her out when we are not home. The last time we did she was good for 2 weeks but, then she destroyed are coach. She is 1 1/2 old. What can I do?

I have an 11 1/2 year old German Shepherd Dog, neuromyopathic in the lower spine. On occasion, he has loose, uncontrollable stool, and I am wondering if this is common with this condition. I have a 2 year old GSD on the same diet, who is experiencing no similar bowel symptoms, so I am ruling out food as the cause.

I just got a solid black female cocker spaniel 2 days ago as a surprise. So now I'm trying to think of a good name b/c I hate not being able to call her something. I know you should be around them to let their personality help you decide but I was wondering if anyone has any good name suggestions relating to her color, black. Any ideas???

As I mentioned in an earlier question I just put my GSP down. I want some opinions on breeds for kids. I am with my dogs all day long. He even came to work with me everyday. We have a lake house so a dog who loves the water is ideal. Our GSP was a great dog but came from a rescue and didn't play, I mean not at all. I want a dog that loves to play but is great around young kids 3&5. Obviously, I know I just described a lab but was looking for other options. Thanks

My 9 year old GSP went suddenly blind last week. After 4 visits to 3 different vets we discovered a tumor in her brain that is causing blindness, shaking and bladder problems. We put her down but I wanted to know how long should I wait to seek another dog. I have a 5 and 3 yo who loved the dog very much but my 5 yo asked if we could get a new dog. I need some advice on this one.
