I believe that, you should get bins filled with things that will be harmful to puppies then isolate your puppy of where the dog should go like in the kitchen or living room. Ask your vet if there is something in the paper that you use that will cause a worm on your puppy. I hope that the vet will suggest buying the dog chew toys to calm the dog down and make it less want to have harmful things. Also dogs really like rawhide and those squeaky toys and hoops that the dog will take its ming off of. But hey thats a puppy for ya!!!

As the others have said, all puppies love to chew. There's obviously something special about chewing paper, although having never chewed it myself, I couldn't tell you what it is . ) Every dog dog I've had loved to rip, chew or shred any kind of paper, napkin, or toilet paper.

Make sure that these items are out of the dog's reach. You don't need to worry about your pup getting worms from paper. Worms are caused from reasons other than eating paper.

Paper is not going to give your dog worms. If you think your dog may have worms and this is why he is eating paper, go to the vet and have them do a fecal float to determine whether he has worm or not and if so what kind.

2-3 months, he's just a puppy.... he's gonna chew up whatever he can get ahold of. Keep the papers out of reach and put the TP up high. If he can reach it, consider it shredded!

My Golden Retriever (Summer) was the same way. Anything she got in her mouth was as good as shredded. Including used or unused toilet tissue! ick!

Best answer is to keep everything out of reach. If you're not around he is instantly rewarded for his behavior and punishing him after the fact doesn't make sense to him. His logic: "Okay for some inane reason this lady beats my hiney at any given moment". You have to catch him in the act.

Close all the bathroom doors, train your baby not to jump up on tables and counters and make sure all paper products are out of reach. If you're not going to use it on your person (i.e. newspaper, magazine etc) try the bitter apple stuff. A few sprays and dogs HATE it!! That might help when you're not there to correct the behavior.

Also it could be a clear sign of bordum. Try getting some Dog oriented videos, or a kong. I love Kongs, fill it w/ Liver paste, peanut butter or something not harmful for Rover and shove dog bones in there. It'll take at least 30 min-1 hour to dig it all out if not longer. there are plenty of great dog toys out there to sway a bored dog.

Most dogs require an hour of out and out running/playing. Dog park, baseball field, a nice jog/walk through the neighborhood. Schedule play dates with other dogs in the neighborhood. Do your training exercises, agility or possibly a companian. Make sure their is clear cut heirarchy in the family.

Most dogs that have a partner in crime are less likely to commit crimes.

And one more thing.... is your dog JUST shredding? And does this happen when you leave? It may be a case of seperation anxiety. Talk to your vet/trainer/ or animal behaviorist for solutions.

Good Luck

Eating paper will not give your dog worms. Most paper is actually relatively harmless to eat, so long as your pup is not eating too much of it. By that i mean you don't want to give it to him in a bowl next to his water, but if he's eaten part of the sports section there's no reason for panic.

If you want to break the habit, find his favorite type of paper. If you catch him in the act of chewing, take it from him, spray it with Bitter Apple spray (more on that in a moment) and then give it back to him. After a few times of this, he will learn to associate the taste of paper with nasty Bitter Apple.

Important side note: be sure to give your dog other things to chew. Specifically, hand them to him on occasion... be they edible treats or chewy toys. You don't want him associating the Bitter Apple taste with things that you are specifically giving him... just the paper products.

Bitter Apple was developed by a pharmacist as a safe method of discouraging dogs from chewing things. It's perfectly harmless, but the dog will absolutely hate the taste. You can get Bitter Apple spray from most pet stores. You can spray it on anything you don't want him to chew.

What breed of dog is it? Does it have chew toys? Just tell it "no" and replace the paper product with a chew toy of some sort. Plush toys and squeaky toys would probably be good. A nylabone could help, too.

Paper won't hurt him and will make it's way out the other end in about a day.

I have a lab and over his 12 1/2 years, he's eaten a lot worse than paper (Just to name a few...):

-Numerous barbie shoes
-Rocks
-A small rubber ball (The kind from the supermarket vending machine)
-A bowl of haloween candy, wrappers and all (Had him x-rayed a week later to make sure all was clear)
-My wedding ring (Got it back, but it wasn't fun sifting through his poop!).

chewing on anything at that age is completely normal....keep an eye out that he doesn't swallow it though. You may want to keep bathroom doors closed or any other doors to rooms that he could potentially get into things when you're not watching (also watch for trash cans). If you haven't already, take your dog to the vet for his shots...during that time your vet will take a feces sample to determine if your dog has worms or not.

you'll have that for about 8 more months. He's not going to get worms. lol. It should cease after all the adult teeth are in. Make sure he got lots of things he's aloud to chew on. When you see him make mistakes, take whatever he's chewing on and silently dispose of it. Then replace it with something he's aloud to have. He'll get the hint after about two weeks with this positve reinforcement techinque...hang in there

ALL puppies will chew whatever they can get hold of. My shih tzu shredded paper until my husband started calling her the "government dog"!
Get him some good chew toys like a Nylabone.
